Scott received the first dose of the vaccine on February 4th. Two days later he began experiencing severe back pain, and on the 10th of February he lost the use of his legs. He spent 82 days in the hospital, and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Vaccine unknown.

Ben's father, Jay Wickerham, suffered from an adverse reaction to the COVID vaccine, which triggered an immune response known as Miller Fish Syndrome [a rare variant of Guillain-Barre Syndrome], which causes the immune system to destroy the nervous system. His symptoms began with numb tingling hands and impaired vision, progressed to speech impairment, headaches and partial paralysis, and escalated to loss of reflex and motor function. He is now on the ICU on a feeding tube and ventilator, mostly sedated, unable to see or talk, trapped in his own body. Vaccine unknown.
