Apple will launch iOS 26, not iOS 19
Apple is planning to change its operating system names to be identified by year, rather than version number. So, the software versions will be iOS 26, macOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and visionOS 26.
This will bring consistency to Apple's branding and move away from a confusing approach to customers and developers. It will be announced in WWDC on June 9.
Along with this, iOS 26 will be the biggest revamp since iOS 7, updating the style of icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons. The design will be loosely based on visionOS. It might add AI-powered battery management tools for iPhones as well, and change how Siri functions.

The app will be released around September for users. Apple has also acquired RAC7 Games, a two-person studio.

Germany is exploring a 10% digital tax on major online platforms like Google and Meta. The Culture Minister of State Wolfram Weimer said that these corporations do "billions in business in Germany" but do not pay taxes or contribute to the country. A legislative proposal is being drafted.

Builder.ai collapsed, AI Companion Natasha was actually Indian workers
Microsoft backed Builder.ai, once valued at $1.5bn, has filed for bankruptcy, after a creditor seized most of its cash. Builder.ai and VerSe Innovation allegedly engaged in a "round-tripping" arrangement to inflate sales by fake transactions. This scam persisted for 8 years.
Builder.ai's AI Companion "Natasha" was actually 700+ Indian coders pretending to be AI. Traditional software was used for pricing and scheduling calculations, rest of the work was manually done by employees.
Builder.ai drastically underpaid employees as well, with extremely poor development experience, lack of modules, unusable code, inaccessible IDE, and some completely unmodifiable code.

Microsoft has introduced lightweight formatting and Markdown support for Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels. A new formatting toolbar including options like bold, italic, headings, lists, and hyperlinks has been added.
Users can switch between formatted view and Markdown syntax view, edit .txt files with Markdown, or switch to plain text. Formatting can be entirely disabled through settings.

Elon Musk has introduced XChat, X's new DM feature. XChat includes end-to-end encryption with 4-digit passcode and disappearing messages. Users can also make audio/video calls without phone number, and upload any kind of file.
XChat is built on Rust and uses encryption similar to Bitcoin's encryption. It is rolling out in beta right now for select users and will roll out for more users soon.

Microsoft is now allowing Windows 11 testers to try out a new, larger Start menu that includes a scrollable interface, new views, and more customizability. An early version of the new Start menu first started showing up in Windows 11 builds in April, followed by Microsoft’s official announcement in May. Today’s Dev Channel release lets you try it out officially for the first time. Microsoft has also made the Start menu larger based on the screen size of your device or monitor.
There’s also a new mobile device button on the Start menu that lets you expand or collapse the Phone Link interface that appears alongside the Start menu. Microsoft is also allowing Windows 11 users to choose what lock screen widgets appear, allowing you to add or remove widgets and rearrange them for the lock screen.

Around last week, Mozilla announced that Pocket, the read-it-later service, will shut down on July 8, 2025, with article deletion by October 8. Fakespot, which detects fake product reviews, is also being sunsetted.
Now, the Deep Fake Detector Firefox extension, designed to identify AI-generated text, has a shutdown notice for June 26, 2025. Mozilla's privacy-focused AI experiment, Orbit, is also being discontinued by June 26. Orbit's private, self-contained setup can be replaced with the new sidebar built directly into Firefox.
