The Qualcomm NoviSpy scandal explained in brief!

Recently a zero-day bug was marked in Qualcomm by Google Project Zero in October (it received a patch in November.) with code CVE-2024-43047.

Seems fine, no? Well, the Serbian government deployed a spyware named NoviSpy which utilises this exploit and targets many people including journalists, human rights activists and government dissidents.

It is said that NoviSpy was installed on many devices over the last few years. The number may range in hundreds.

The spyware works by communicating with BIA servers while configuration data links to a specific person.

This is just bad for Qualcomm, honestly.

The US is preparing to get TikTok banned from the Play Store and App Store... again!

John Moolenaar of the Republicans and Raja Krishnamoorthi of the Democrats issued a warning to ByteDance and Shou Zi Chew (TikTok CEO) to do a "qualified divestiture" from US market to avoid risk to the national security.

We already know all about ByteDance and Tiktok and how they collect data and their link to the CCP, we don't need to talk about that.

Alphabet and Apple have been instructed to remove TikTok from their app stores by January 19. Neither of them have commented yet.

TikTok quickly has to appeal to the supreme court to avoid getting banned from the US.

Will it happen this time around?

Windows 11 24H2 rollout has been delayed.... yet again!

Microsoft has again delayed roll-out for the "long awaited" 24H2 release because now AutoHDR has issues with colours. Seems small enough? Well, in some devices, audio is broken and there's NO workaround.

Microsoft confirmed that all audio output devices, including internal speakers, bluetooth, headset, etc are broken entirely. It was found that all devices that use Dirac Audio with the cridspapo.dll file had this problem. Meanwhile, if you haven't updated to Windows 11 24H2 yet, you'll no longer see the notification to update due to compatibility hold.

Yet another Windows L, sigh.

Qualcomm can resume selling Snapdragon X chips in the PC market!

Earlier, Qualcomm had its license to sell Snapdragon X chips revoked. Today, one of the judges found that QCom had properly licensed the chips from Arm, hence now they can continue selling the chips.

"After more than nine hours of deliberations over two days, the eight-person jury in U.S. federal court could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether Nuvia, a startup that Qualcomm purchased for $1.4 billion in 2021, breached the terms of its license with Arm. But the jury found that Qualcomm did not breach Nuvia's license with Arm. The jury also found that Qualcomm's chips created using Nuvia technology, which have been central to Qualcomm's push into the personal computer market, are properly licensed under its own agreement with Arm, clearing the way for Qualcomm to continue selling them."

Qualcomm produces these chips under Nuvia, which was started by ex-Apple and ex-Arm employees who wanted to mess around with Arm chips, until Qualcomm hopped on and bought them.

They claim 1% or less of the Oryon CPUs are based on Arm v8.

This will prove to be a major step forward for Qualcomm, who is looking forward to have a taste of the PC market.

Thought the Intel Arc B580 was insane enough? Well, Maxsun Intel Arc B580 is even more insane.

What does it offer? 2 M.2 slots. No, I'm not joking, one wasn't enough. The GPU seems to be based off of the recently announced iCraft Arc B580 12G, with both of these GPUs using the same PCB. In fact it pretty much seems like Maxsun just soldered the M.2 slots on the motherboard.

Arc B580 is going REALLY crazy.

Halo Infinite has a.... situation with the forge map makers.

Halo has had forge mode since forever as a way for the community to build maps by itself. Since Halo Infinite launched forge, this has never been more true, considering most of the game's community is being driven by the modders and mapmakers. Halo Studios (formerly known as 343 Industries) themselves support forgers by adding the maps they approve to official matchmaking.

However err, they haven't made the best policies for these forgers. Once a forger's map gets approved for matchmaking, they have very limited control over it and can't edit the map much. Everything goes under Halo Studio's control and you literally don't own the map anymore.

This has caused many forgers to stop creating content for Halo Infinite. But, that's not all.

We have had The Digsite Project, a small team that worked with Halo Studios to restore cut content for older games (eg: Halo 2 E3 2003 demo, Halo Combat Evolved E3 2000 demo, etc.). However, recently many members of the team have suddenly left the team. All of them have stated various reasons for their departure, but it's kind of concerning. The Halo 3 Digsite team is still in the works, and we will soon see what they find.

A MASSIVE 90GB LEAK HAPPENED OF DEVELOPMENT STUFF RELATED TO BUNGIE-ERA HALO!

Today a massive leak happened that leaked many things from Halo's bungie era, including but NOT limited to the entire 1999 Mac-world demo build, some stuff from 2000, early Halo 2 betas, the CUT guardian forest level from Halo 3 and some content from Halo 3 ODST and Reach (namely a beta build named Omaha).

The reason is someone from the Digsite team. The core team has no connection to this. They explained how the situation has been terrible for them, especially considering the contents that need to ne restored from Halo 3 specifically. One of the devs said that working on Halo 3 needs a full-time job, but that's the sad part. These people had been doing this for free, with no support from either Halo Studio, nor any monetary funding from Xbox. The thing is these poor people never received any money for what could be considered a full-time job.

This is absolutely massive for us, but the thing is, its impacts have made it very bad. It is VERY much possible that due to this, Xbox will never support modders again, Digsite has probably been discontinued after this, and I doubt Halo Studios will have modding support for future titles.

I can't summarise this in one post, but honestly, this situation is very sad. I am disappointed by Halo Studios treating their community like this.

I wish the best for all these devs, as a member of the community, I'm very grateful for the work they've done.
