Google is killing its one-click app to run Chrome OS in a VM on Android devices

Google has cancelled plans to release the Ferrochrome launcher app, which was designed to make running Chrome OS on Android Devices easily through virtualization.

The company is working on Android Virtualization Framework (AVF) capable of running alternative operating systems with full graphical interfaces. Google's Ferrochrome launcher app, which would have made downloading and running Chrome OS on Android easy, was a tech demo in May, which has now been cancelled.

This decision is expected to shift Google towards using the Linux-based Debian distro for AVF development.

Google removes Kaspersky's antivirus software from Play Store

Google removed Kaspersky's Android security apps from the Google Play store and disabled its developer accounts. Users reported the products being unavailable on the platform in the US and other regions.

Kaspersky confirmed the issue and is currently investigating the reasons behind the issue. Users are advised to install the apps from alternative app stores or download the .apk installation file from Kaspersky's website.

This comes after Kaspersky announced in July that it would shut down its US operations after the US government sanctioned the company and banned Kaspersky antivirus software.

Chrome Canary just killed uBlock Origin and other Manifest V2 extensions

Google Chrome Canary has removed the flag that allows users to re-enable Manifest V2 extensions, including ad blockers like uBlock Origin. This is a significant move towards the full depreciation of V2 extensions.

The new V3 framework limits ad blockers by forcing them to use the declarativeNetRequest API, which reduces their ability to block ads dynamically.

Ad blockers and other MV2 extensions still work in the public version of Chrome.

Google is testing a new version of Chrome for Android with extensions support

Google is developing a version of Chrome for Android that supports browser extensions, but it will likely be limited to desktop-like Android devices (such as ChromeOS). While it's technically possible to use extensions on Android via third-party Chromium-based browsers, Google has not added this support to mobile Chrome due to concerns like ad-blocking.

Although mobile Chrome may not get extension support soon, Google's work on "Desktop Android" raises hope for future changes. This project is still experimental, and extensions support isn't yet fully functional.

Kasperksy is closing down in UK and laying off dozens

Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky is closing its UK office, laying off fewer than 50 employees. This comes after the shutdown of its U.S. operations, with the company shifting its UK strategy to partner channels and relying on its European team for support.

Kaspersky has faced scrutiny over alleged ties to the Russian government, which it denies. In June, the U.S. banned Kaspersky products, leading to layoffs and transferring its U.S. customers to UltraAV, resulting in some users facing a forced software transition.

Turkey has banned Discord

Turkey has blocked access to Discord following a court ruling after Discord refused to share information. The ban was imposed due to concerns about alleged "child sexual abuse and obscenity" crimes committed by users on Discord.

The block comes after the murder of two women in Istanbul, and social media showed that the killing was praised by Discord users.

Since Discord refuses to share its own information, including IP addresses and content, with our security units, we were forced to block access.

Ratan Tata tragically passed away just a while back. He was admitted in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital since Monday due to a drop in blood pressure rate. His condition was critical.

Unfortunately, he passed away just a while back.

Ratan Tata has made severe breakthroughs in not only India, but in the entire world. We have truly lost a visionary.

It takes severe selflessness to think about every man of your country and beyond.

May his soul rest in peace.
