A fake YouTube channel called Apple, which is a company for the new upcoming iPhone 16 Series, tricked people ahead of the Glowtime event on September 9, 2024. An AI-generated video of CEO Tim Cook asking for Bitcoin was streamed until it was taken down. Millions were tricked into watching the fake livestream, which mimicked the official iPhone 16 launch.
Apple is set to launch the iPhone 16 series with on-device AI features during the event. iOS 18 will be released, but it won't support all iPhone models. Compatible models include the iPhone 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, XS, XR, and SE (2nd and 3rd gen). Apple Intelligence AI features will arrive with iOS 18.1.

The CCI's 1,027-page report on Amazon said the Indian units of 5 companies - Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Realme and OnePlus - were "involved in the practice of exclusive" phone launches in "collusion" with Amazon and its affiliates, breaking competition law. In Flipkart's case, a 1,696-page CCI report said the Indian units of Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Vivo, Lenovo and Realme conducted similar practices.
The major issue with these "exclusive launches" is that retailers offered the big players preference, prioritization of certain listings, and steep discounts, all of which hurt other retailers
All 5 companies have been ordered to submit their financial statements for three fiscal years to 2024, certified by their auditor, to the CCI, according to an internal CCI document dated Aug. 28 as seen by Reuters.

Microsoft confirms its Paint 3D app is being discontinued in November
Microsoft is discontinuing its Paint 3D app, which will be removed from the Microsoft Store on November 4, 2024. Initially intended to replace the original MS Paint, the app is being deprecated.

This is kinda disappointing, especially since Telegram was originally meant to be a private messaging app. It seems like the platform isn't as secure or private as it used to be.

X will allow blocked users to see your posts
The days of the “@[insert username] blocked you” page appear to be over. X will now allow blocked users to view posts from accounts that have blocked them, though they still won’t be able to engage with their posts.
A specific timeline for the rollout of this feature hasn’t been provided yet. Musk says that blocking on the platform “makes no sense" as users can easily switch to a non-blocked profile to access blocked accounts.
X's Engineering account had previously hinted at this change.

Ukraine Bans Telegram on State-Issued Devices
Ukraine has banned the use of Telegram on official devices issued to government and military personnel, citing security risks posed by Russia. The National Security and Defence Council (Rnbo) stated this decision aims to minimize threats, including cyberattacks, phishing, and geolocation misuse for missile targeting by Russian forces. The ban exempts officials who require Telegram for work duties.
Telegram, widely used in both Ukraine and Russia, denies sharing user data with any government, including Russia. However, Ukraine's military intelligence claims Russian special services can access personal and even deleted messages on the platform, raising significant concerns.

Google Cache Is Fully Dead
Google has now totally disabled the Google Cache from completely working. Earlier this year, Google removed the cache link from the search result snippets. Then a couple of weeks ago, added links to the Wayback Machine. Now, the direct link to see the Google Cache has been fully disabled.
If you try to go directly to the Google Cache - Google will now show nothing.
Google officially posted it on September 24 and also removed it from the docs.

Some controversy today as YouTube tech reviewer Marques Brownlee 'Panels' app is getting pretty substantial backlash.
tl;dr Marques Brownlee app, 'Panels', offers high-definition wallpapers from Digital Artists for $49.99/year. People criticized the app for an array of reasons, beside the idea of paying $49.99/year for wallpapers on your cell phone, the app requests tracking information, and contains ads.
Unsurprisingly, and as is tradition, internet nerds quickly began inspecting the app under the metaphorical microscope. Security researcher @I_Am_Jakoby discovered the apps API is wildly insecure. He wrote a simple script which programmatically scrapes every high-definition wallpaper.
Attached image is the script he shared. If you want to experiment with it, just OCR it or something.

NOYB insists that by default, Mozilla enables this tracking feature in Firefox, yet does not properly inform the user, thus violating EU privacy legislation.
Mozilla defended PPA as an attempt at improving advertisement practices with no identification of individuals. NOYB argues that users should have the option to opt in and that data collected should be deleted.

Last week, September 16, 2024, something very important, at least for us geeks — finally happened: the Linux realtime effort, which was dubbed PREEMPT_RT in its early days and later Real-Time Linux (RTL), finally, finally succeeded! After "only" 20 years, all of the RTL code will soon be in-tree in the upcoming 6.12 Linux kernel.
6.11 was released on 23 Sep 2024, and here's the recent 6.9 patches.

IT'S JOEVER: CVE 9.9 (Remote Code Execution) ISSUED FOR LINUX
A vulnerability in Unix printing service CUPS has been found which allows for remote code execution. Considering this issue is with CUPS, it SHOULD also affect other unix/unix-like OSes (Linux, BSD and all that). This exploit works by sending miscreants on UDP Port 631.
For now, here are the potential mitigation steps:
- Keep CUPS up-to-date and check for updates ASAP
- Disable CUPS entirely
- Block port 631
I'd recommend that unless you need printing, all of you get rid of CUPS IF it's installed on your system.
Windows exploits? Nahh that's baby stuff. But YOU KNOW it's serious when Linux gets an exploit (and that too with a rating of 9.9).
