Google Photos rolling out 'Collections' redesign to replace 'Library' tab
'Library' tab features quick access to Favorites and Trash, with a dynamic 2x2 grid based on frequently accessed items. The "Photos on device" section is now under "On this device," which means that accessing your camera roll now requires an extra step.
Albums are combined under a folder with customizable view options. Collections is also home to a “People & pets” folder, Documents, and Places. Utilities have been removed and its tools have been relocated.
Meanwhile, the Search tab has been redesigned to be just a list.

Exposing Security Flaws in Microsoft's Copilot: A Black Hat Revelation
Michael Bargury, Zenity CTO, revealed security flaws in Microsoft's Copilot at the Black Hat conference. He highlighted that the default settings in Copilot Studio, a tool for building AI-driven enterprise bots, are insecure, making it easy for attackers to exploit these bots to access sensitive data of the organisation that uses this tech.
Bargury demonstrated how attackers can use indirect prompt injection attacks, similar to remote code execution, to compromise Copilot and perform malicious activities. Although Microsoft has fixed some issues, vulnerabilities remain, especially in older installations.

End of an era: Nova Launcher's parent company lays off practically everyone
Nova Launcher, a popular Android custom launcher, has undergone significant changes after its parent company, Branch Metrics, laid off over 100 employees, including nearly the entire Nova team. Only founder Kevin Barry remains, who is continuing work on Nova 8.1 but with a reduced scope.
The now former Nova Launcher employees seem to echo the sentiment that there’s no reason to panic and that Kevin will continue his good work. With the loss of customer support and PR, future development is expected to slow, focusing mainly on minor updates and bug fixes.

Apple adds nearly endless 20 percent fee for developers in latest EU update
Apple is updating its App Store rules in the EU in response to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) but is adding new fees that may discourage developers from using them. Starting this fall, developers can include external purchase links in their apps, but Apple will charge a "store services fee" of up to 25% on sales made within a year of app installation, even if the purchase is made outside the app.
These changes are seen as a way for Apple to maintain control and revenue, despite EU regulations aimed at promoting competition.

LiteGapps Included an Ad Link for Over 6 Months
LiteGapps included a script related to ads, which has been found to contain a phishing link capable of sending instant OTPs, according to @thesaltyspitoon_dump, which is probably not true.
This script is designed to check if Chrome browser (stable/canary/beta/dev) is installed on an Android device and then open the ad link using the browser.
However, the developer announced that the ad code was removed two days ago because it was "ineffective" and that the embedded link in the installer is from Adsterra as the ad service provider, not phishing.
To stay safe, either update to the latest version or consider switching to an alternative GApps package.

X faces GDPR complaints for unauthorized use of data for AI training
European privacy advocate NOYB has filed nine GDPR complaints against X for allegedly using the personal data of over 60 million European users without consent to train its AI model, Grok.
The unauthorized Grok training occurred between May 7 and August 1, 2024. NOYB questions why X didn't inform users about this data usage, what happened to EU data already ingested, and how the company plans to separate EU from non-EU data.
Despite an agreement between X and Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner to suspend data processing until September, NOYB finds the response insufficient and is pushing for a full investigation.

Apple Intelligence: Potential Price Tiers, Features, and Subscription Models
Analysts have claimed that Apple may charge for some of the more advanced Apple Intelligence features at some stage, with fees of $10-20 per month.
One possibility, they say, is that the company would require an Apple One subscription for access to the full set of AI features. For Apple Intelligence, a potential structure could look like this:
Apple Intelligence may introduce advanced features, but it could take up to three years to develop. In short, you won’t need to worry about paying for Siri anytime soon.
