Xiaomiui community was founded in 2017 but recently faced some challenges and declined in activity. The biggest reason for this is the pressure put on us by the Xiaomi Global team. However, I'll try to write a farewell message for you, reflecting on the importance of the community and expressing gratitude for your time spent there.

Dear fellow Xiaomiui members,

It saddens me to share that our beloved community has faced some challenges and is now on its way to closure. In the past few years, we have shared countless memories, knowledge, and experiences together. It was a privilege to be a part of such a vibrant community where we could learn and grow together.

The Xiaomiui community has played an important role in shaping my understanding of technology, as well as my love for Xiaomi smartphones. The collective knowledge and passion we shared have helped us find solutions to various issues, making our devices even better.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. I will always cherish the friendships we've formed and the moments we've shared. I hope we will continue to stay connected in other ways, even after the community's closure.

Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to the every member who contributed to this community. Your hard work and dedication have helped create a space where we could learn, share, and grow together.

Thank you, and farewell, dear friends. May our paths cross again in other online communities or even in real life. Xiaomiui.net is permanently ending its news life. But don't worry, we will continue to share important news for you on @GSMChina gsmchina.com. ❤️

X is starting to charge new users $1 per year to send tweets

The subscription requires new users to pay the equivalent of $1 USD per year in order to be able to post.

"As of October 17th, 2023 we’ve started testing 'Not A Bot,' a new subscription method for new users in two countries," X explains. "This new test was developed to bolster our already significant efforts to reduce spam, manipulation of our platform and bot activity. This will evaluate a potentially powerful measure to help us combat bots and spammers on X, while balancing platform accessibility with the small fee amount."

This fee is for new users only. Those who don’t pay will only be able to use X in a "read only" mode. It is currently being tested in New Zealand and the Philippines.

The company said that for now the fees will not apply to existing users.

Xiaomi phones will soon be unable to unlock bootloader (most probably fake)

Based on the information in the attached image, Xiaomi has made the decision to stop support for bootloader unlocking and other services for all newly launched products after May 24, 2024. For products already on the market, support for bootloader unlocking will be discontinued 60 days from the date of the announcement.

Any product launched before May 24, 2024 can probably still be unlocked, but not after that.

Note: The post has been deleted on Weibo because it was probably not supposed to be live right now, it is supposed to be announced in Q1 next year, according to a source.

Some sources are saying it's real, while some sources are claiming this to be fake. We don't really know what's true, so only time will tell.

It's fake 😭

Motorola's new foldable concept phone shown at LenovoTechWorld 2023!

At its core, a 6.9-inch display can be used just as a normal Android smartphone. You can run apps and do anything else just as usual. But bending the device allows it to sit in an upright position which cuts the display size down to 4.6-inches while allowing it to stand up on its own.

On the other hand, the device can even be bent to fit around your entire wrist and worn like a really big smartwatch

15 years of Android memories: Happy Birthday Android!

It’s been 15 years since the first version of the Android operating system with Android Market (now Google Play) debuted on the T-Mobile G1. That’s a lot of phones, statues, desserts and events.

Congratulations, Android users!

Talking about Android Custom ROMs:

HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1) was the first Android device which the developers found an exploit for and then got superuser access.

Koushik Dutta, founder of Clockwork Mod, provided the first detailed guide to root HTC G1.

The famous custom in those days was "JF ROM" by JesusFreke (I'm not sure if it was the first one)

JesusFreke stopped development in August 2009 and suggested users to shift to CyanogenMOD made by Steve Kodnik which was an enhanced version of JF!

CyanogenMOD's first version was 3.1 (Dream & Magic) which was released in July 2009. The final release was 13.0 ZNH5YAO (from Android 6.0.1 r61) which was released in 20 December 2016!

After CyanogenMOD's development ended, it was succeeded by LineageOS.

In December 2016 the CyanogenMod developer group forked and re-branded the CyanogenMod code into a new project named LineageOS, which is built on top of CyanogenMod versions 13 and 14.1. LineageOS version 15.1 was the first release fully controlled by the new LineageOS team.

There were also other custom ROMS in those days, like SlimRoms, Replicant, AOKP, OmniROM, Resurrection Remix OS, CalyxOS, CopperheadOS, /e/, Mokee ROM, Dirty Unicorns, and more! 🤖

Do let me know if I missed something 😖

Note: The attached image is Demi Adejuyigbe's Android home screen; modified G1 with JesusFreke 1.51 ADP firmware, skinned with XDA's HTC Hero theme - Link

But wait...are custom ROMs free anymore?

Let's talk about EvolutionX, which is currently a famous ROM (my ass) by a reputed (my ass) custom ROM Developer (my ass), Yeoj Huab!

First of all, see the images attached.
Next, here's an export of a chat between Joey and a person - link

So, according to Joey, we fuckers can't do shit. He's rich. He makes money using custom ROMs. He can make money out of open source and we can't. That's shameful, we should learn something from him. Oh and yeah, he's a rich beggar as well. (first image)

This chat is nothing new to be honest, since he's been doing this since a long time.

And we all know what he does in the name of custom ROM development right? Kanging from other ROMs, buildbotting using someone else's trees, and much more!

At least the other "actual custom ROM developers" don't beg for money and show off someone else's work, lol.

Take a quick look at his work:
- First of all, he did a crowdfund for Poco F5 - which was successful (link)
- Now, see what our "lead dev" for Poco F5 has actually done - https://github.com/Evolution-X-Devices/device_xiaomi_marble

Yes bhai best lead dev 2023

Idk what to say anymore, this guy is just crazy and mentally unstable 😂

Xiaomi HyperOS for smartphones is just rebranded MIUI

Xiaomi notes restructuring of modules like file & network system, memory management etc with HyperOS.
However, Xiaomi successfully fails to explain how different it is from MIUI firmware

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC ONLY supports 64bit apps

This forced Xiaomi to redo the overlays that target the 32bit Framework.
You can't build the frameworks as 32bit because of the massive overhead which is ~40% with tango

As they're forced to redo the framework, management see the potential to rebrand it along the way.
Thus the "Vela" platform was born in the marketing board

There is NO single reference to Xiaomi's open-sourced "Vela" Platform in Xiaomi work Gerrit (private).
Still, several Xiaomi HALs are 32bit including the MIUI media server LOL

So, HyperOS is just MIUI with new SystemUI overlays & an excuse to the technical difficulty of shipping 64-bit only lmao

FunFact: Xiaomi came up & trademarked HyperOS just last month on 28th September
