Overnight Global Futures Lead
π 18 Apr 2025
Commentary
(1) FKLI
Bursa Malaysia saw an increase in buying activity because of the favorable atmosphere surrounding the investment agreements reached during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Malaysia. Deliberately designed to strengthen commercial relations in the face of growing trade concerns with the US .This diplomatic effort is seen as an attempt to strengthen regional ties and offset the negative effects of significant US tariffs on Chinese goods.
(2) U.S. Stock Index Futures
On Thursday, the last trading day of the week, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq saw gains due to attention on US-Japan trade negotiations, while the Dow was negatively impacted by a decline in UnitedHealth's stock after the insurer lowered its projection.
(3) FCPO
Concern over increasing output in the upcoming weeks increased pressure on FCPO, which closed lower for the fourth day in a row. The sentiment of the market was also influenced by the strengthening ringgit relative to the US currency.
(4) COMEX Gold
A lower dollar and growing U.S.-China trade concerns pushed bullion over the $3,300 per ounce threshold, but gold prices cooled Thursday after a steep increase the day before as investors booked profits ahead of a long weekend.
(5) Crude Oil
After Washington imposed additional sanctions to limit the Iranian oil trade and several Opec members promised further output cutbacks to make up for pumping over agreed quotas, oil prices continued to rise Thursday on the expectation of a tighter supply.
