What happens when electrical equipment comes into contact with water?
Not bad!
👍 Short circuit is the correct answer. A circuit is where electricity flows. Water disturbs the circuit, causing electricity to flow in an uncontrolled way.
👎 High voltage is wrong. It means electricity that is more than the usual 220 volt strong and can harm people.
👎 Alternating current is wrong. Current is electricity, and alternating means changing direction. There are both alternating current and direct current, usually abbreviated as “AC/DC”.
👎 Extension cord is wrong. You can see extension cords in the picture, connecting the electric grill to the power supply.

#20 Learn how to learn: Learning strategies
❓ Do you want to improve your English but don’t know what’s the best way?
❗️ You may need some language learning strategies. Here’s how:
1️⃣ Try different strategies. Watch more movies? Read more books? Chat with foreigners? Write more or just listen? Imitate someone? Learn 20 words every day? Discuss with a friend? You won’t know what works for you if you don’t try. Collect more data about yourself.
2️⃣ Be yourself. What works for your friend may not work for you. What your teacher thinks is good for you might not help you. People are different in ability, interest and learner type. Nobody knows you better than you know yourself.
3️⃣ Manage your time. Spend more time on what works and less time on the kind of homework that you do only for your teacher. Take control of your learning by finding your own way. Once you have found good strategies, keep them and reserve time.

#1 Corona: Playing safe
🆕 In this series of posts we shall every now and then (=once in a while) anticipate (=expect, think about sth beforehand, get ready for sth) a little bit how this silly little virus is changing just about everything (=pretty much everything, almost everything). The photos and videos are not my own but have been collected from various websites and channels.
▶️ Having a music class online? Not easy. Playing a wind instrument (=musical instrument in which you blow air) while wearing a mask? Not so easy either. Check out these creative solutions!

#66 Our favourite mistakes: Pronunciation
▶️ Try pronouncing the following words:
• clothes
• months
❓What do these two words have in common?
❗️ They both have the impossible combination of TH and S. The good news is – even native speakers usually skip the TH here:
• ✅ kləʊdz or kləʊz
• ❌ kləʊðəs
• ✅ mʌnts or mʌns
• ❌ mʌnƟəs

#32 Travelogue Germany: Patriotism
Patriotism, or I should probably say the lack of it, is always an interesting topic when it comes to Germany. Interesting because Germans are so ambivalent about it. Let’s explore three German concepts:
“Erbsünde”
This means basically “inherited sin” – a sin that isn’t actually your own but your parents’ or grandparents’. What sin could that be? Of course it’s about Nazi Germany.
“Lokalpatriotismus”
“Local patriotism” can be the better kind of patriotism, at least for Germans. They can be very proud of their “Heimat”, i.e. hometown, and rarely try to hide their dialect.
“König Fußball”
“King Football” has proven to be an effective remedy for Germans’ lack of self-love. Especially since Germany’s 2006 World Cup it’s completely okay to wave German flags again, but for football only.
---Vocab---
📍ambivalent = unsure about one’s feelings 📍remedy = medicine 📍wave (verb) = move sth from side to side
