#142 Our favourite mistakes: Vocabulary

▶️ Please translate the following sentence:
Men yaqinda chet elga chiqaman.

❌ Perhaps you think it is:
I will recently go to abroad.

✅ Well, it should be:
I will soon go abroad.

❓Why?

❗️ Recently refers only to the past, not the future. The Uzbek word yaqinda can be translated as either recently (in the past) or soon (in the future).

❗️ The word abroad is an adverb and doesn’t need a preposition, just like home.

#55 Movie Time: The Downfall (2004)

▶️ Today’s film is a 🇩🇪German drama about Hitler’s last weeks in his bunker (=bomb shelter, safe building or tunnel to hide in a war). As the Soviet army advances (=gets closer) to Berlin it becomes clear that Germany is about to (=soon going to) lose the war. Watch how Hitler’s empire collapses in a matter of days (=within only a few days) and enjoy the famous scene (=part of a movie or theatre play) in which he loses his temper (=gets very angry).
