#32 Know Your World: The illusion of choice
▶️ Our supermarkets are full of colourful products. We have a dazzling (=very impressive) choice. Or do we? Yes and no. Most products are actually made by the same few companies. They hide behind different brands, grab shelf space, control prices, advertise heavily, buy up competitors and even make the cheaper no-name products just to keep other companies out.
Europe and America are very much in the hands of these big companies and they’re doing everything to get bigger in other parts of the world, too.

#133 Our favourite mistakes: Writing
▶️ Look at this sentence:
If I get a chance to travel I want to go to America, Europe, Japan, Australia.
❓ What’s wrong here?
❗️ In a list of items (enumeration) there should be ‘and’ before the last item, not a comma. It should be America, Europe, Japan and Australia.
❗️ The only exception to that is newspaper headlines where you can find things like ‘Agreement signed between Russia, Ukraine’.

#7 Travel Notes: Wannabe Europe
▶️ 🇬🇪Georgia was recently hoping to become an official candidate country to join the 🇪🇺European Union but – oh no! – was refused. Maybe it will take another 10 years, who knows. That doesn’t stop Georgians from expressing their enthusiasm (=strong feeling of interest and enjoyment) for Europe.
