#60 Travelogue UK: Fun Compilation

#1 Happy hens
A great case of added value โ€“ free-range eggs are healthy, and who would disagree? โ˜บ๏ธ

#2 Piggy pigeons
Vandalism can also be funny. Pigeons are an absolute nuisance in many cities but some people still feed them. But pigs are even worse of course! ๐Ÿฅด

#3 Special spray
Youโ€™re a very important person (โ€œV.I.P.โ€) and donโ€™t want to leave any smell behind as you finish your business? Use the V.I.Poo toilet spray! ๐Ÿ˜

#4 Rude restaurant
Sometimes we can discover familiar words in strange-looking Vietnamese! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

#5 Peeved pedestrian
Someone was seriously upset by a pedestrian-unfriendly traffic light and decided to complain. ๐Ÿ˜ก

#6 Naughty newspaper
Boris Johnson is once again criticised for breaking promises. Thatโ€™s political satire. ๐Ÿ˜–

#7 Poor pizza
Ouch! How did that pizza land upside-down on the pavement? If it amuses you then at least it wasnโ€™t a total waste! ๐Ÿคช

This song is from ...
Good job on this one!

๐Ÿ‘ The Philippines was correct. The style was quite unspecific (=general, not special) and could have been from anywhere. Not so the language. It was Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines.

๐Ÿ‘Ž Serbia was wrong โ€“ the language should have been Slavic and somehow similar to Russian. Botswana in Southern Africa speaks English and Venezuela is a Spanish-speaking country in South America.
#95 Our favourite mistakes: Vocabulary

โ–ถ๏ธ Please translate the following sentence:
Uy vazifasini qilmadim.

โŒ Perhaps you think it is:
I didnโ€™t do my home task.

โœ… Well, it should be:
I didnโ€™t do my homework.

โ“Why?

โ—๏ธ The word home task is a translation from Uzbek and/or Russian.

#2 Afandi Karaoke: I Wonโ€™t Let You Down (by OK Go)

๐Ÿ†• Songs are a great way to learn a foreign language โ€“ who would disagree? Afandi English is bringing you great songs with great lyrics that bring your English to life. Important: Repetition is the mother of learning!

โ–ถ๏ธ Todayโ€™s video is I Wonโ€™t Let You Down by the American rock band OK Go. The video was shot in Japan and has a rather interesting and complex (=complicated) choreography (=arrangement of dancers in a performance). If you want to know how they made it, check it out here.

#61 Travelogue Germany: The covid controversy

Germans seem to have different opinions about how to deal with covid:

1. Local governments
No matter which political party, all local governments remind people of the need to wear masks and get vaccinated.

2. Shops
Businesses want to show how much they care. Cash is now unhygienic and paper slips can help you avoid touching the surface of a trolley.

3. Public transport
Catching corona on a crowded train is a horror scenario that must be avoided with strict mask mandates and ritual hand sanitising.

4. Vaccines for all
Some activists demand that vaccines be available to all people in the world, free from commercial interests.

5. Freedom fighters
Some see in the covid thing a road into a dystopian future where everyone is controlled all the time.

Where people stand doesnโ€™t depend on covid but on who they trusted in the first place โ€“ the government, companies or themselves.
