#49 Know Your World: What East and West think about each other

โ–ถ๏ธ Much can be said about the differences between East and West, and you may well argue that there no such places called โ€œthe Westโ€ or โ€œthe Eastโ€. Nonetheless there seem to be some differences between Western and non-Western cultures. Check out this infographic about different values and perceptions (=ways to see and understand) of each other. Iโ€™m sure you can relate some points to your experience!

See a short video about East & West โ€“ individualism vs collectivism and a series of illustrations โ€“ Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

#17 World Food: Hummus from the ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡พMiddle East

โ–ถ๏ธ Hereโ€™s an easy and delicious dip sauce (=thick sauce for eaten with bread) to make from chickpeas (=yellow round beans grown in the Middle East, India and Central Asia). Hummus is an Arab cold dish and is โ€ฆ

... made with:
Boiled chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, salt and if possible also some tahini (=sesame paste). Put all the ingredients in a blender (=machine with rotating knives to make a paste or juice) and blend for a couple of minutes.

... eaten with:
Any kind of bread or vegetables.

Healthy or not? ๐ŸŸข
Easy to make? ๐ŸŸข
Cheap enough? ๐ŸŸข

#144 Our favourite mistakes: Writing

โ–ถ๏ธ Look at the writing above. ๐Ÿ‘†

โ“Whatโ€™s wrong here?
โ—๏ธ The spaces between the words are much too large. When typing you also canโ€™t use more than one space between words.

โ“Why?
โ—๏ธ This habit comes from writing โ€˜konspektโ€™ in which you have to fill as many pages as possible with as little text as possible, to trick the teacher into thinking that you have done a lot of work. Please donโ€™t do it in essay writing, itโ€™s dishonest and wasteful.
