#7 Travel Notes: Wannabe Europe
โถ๏ธ ๐ฌ๐ชGeorgia was recently hoping to become an official candidate country to join the ๐ช๐บEuropean Union but โ oh no! โ was refused. Maybe it will take another 10 years, who knows. That doesnโt stop Georgians from expressing their enthusiasm (=strong feeling of interest and enjoyment) for Europe.

What does this map show?
Well done!
๐ก The map shows the spread of the Latin alphabet, by far the most widely used alphabet in the world. That spread is still going on actually as ๐ฐ๐ฟKazakhstan is now switching from Cyrillic to Latin and wants to become fully Latinised by 2031.

#14 World Food: Spaghetti Bolognese from ๐ฎ๐นItaly
โถ๏ธ It is probably the most popular pasta (=Italian noodles) dish in the world. In English-speaking countries you can also hear the short form โspag bolโ. In fact, this dish is so famous that thereโs even a spaghetti icon on Telegram (๐). It is ...
... made with:
Spaghetti, fresh or canned (=in a metal can) tomatoes, minced meat (=meat in small pieces), onions and garlic.
... eaten with:
Mediterranean (=from the countries between Europe and Africa, surrounding the Mediterranean Sea) herbs (=small aromatic plants used for cooking) like oregano and basil, and grated (=turned into small stripes) Parmesan cheese (=hard cheese with a strong flavour)
Healthy or not? ๐ก
Easy to make? ๐ข
Cheap enough? ๐ข

#84 Travelogue Georgia: Oh My Dog!
โถ๏ธ If Turkey is a country of cats then ๐ฌ๐ชGeorgia is for dogs. You can see dogs everywhere in the country. They donโt do much really and arenโt much of a nuisance but you do hear some howling at night. Most but not all of them are vaccinated and neutered by the government. Those dogs have a tag on their ears. Anyway, why dogs?
Laissez-faire
Georgia is a very liberal country. People are quite free to do and say what they want. Hence there is no heavy-handed policy about anything, neither drugs or crime nor street dogs.
Religion
Muslim countries rarely have a problem with street dogs because dogs are considered dirty animals in Islam. Christianity doesnโt say much about dogs but it does preach mercy and tolerance towards the weak.
Westernisation
Georgians have a deep dislike of their Soviet past and their big bully neighbour Russia. They are looking to the West instead and want to dissociate themselves from the cruelty of the East.
