What do we call that something?
Whoopsie!

๐Ÿ’ก There are not many ornithologists (=bird specialists) among us it seems. Down in the noun form has this meaning actually. Plumes are feathers, especially when they are used for decoration. Hair is found on humans, fur on animals. Mane is the cuddly thing that male lions have around their head and coat is just a piece of clothing.
#34 Tongue twister: Big Apple

โ—๏ธChallenge yourself with this tongue twister:

โ–ถ๏ธ I like New York. Unique New York. I like unique New York.

Translation:
Menga Nyu York yoqadi. Yagona Nyu York. Menga yagona Nyu York yoqadi.

๐Ÿ”˜ Fluency and accuracy: Tongue twisters force you to pay more attention to correct pronunciation, while at the same time youโ€™re trying to speak fast. Keep practicing them until your both fluent and accurate, itโ€™ll benefit your speaking skill!

#10 Afandi Karaoke: Letโ€™s Fall In Love For The Night (by Finneas)

โ–ถ๏ธ Todayโ€™s song is catchy tune (=a melody that is easy to remember) with a lot of contemporary (=of our current times) Western culture content. Itโ€™s basically saying that life-long love and lasting relationships are unrealistic anyway, so thereโ€™s no need to even try.

#3 Travel Notes: Mount Ararat

โ–ถ๏ธ Borders are weird sometimes. Mount Ararat is the national symbol of ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฒArmenia although it is entirely in ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ทTurkey. The sight of the mountain is truly impressive and graces (=make sth more attractive) the Yerevan cityscape (=landscape of a city), especially when there is less air pollution. The mountain is 5,137 metres high. Read more about it on Wikipedia.

#24 Know Your World: The real meanings of country names

โ–ถ๏ธ The names of foreign countries often sound unique and exotic (=strange in an interesting way, from a faraway place) to our ears. They often have a really ordinary or strange meaning. Someone made a world map with the literal meanings (=word-for-word meaning) of every country name.

#95 Afandi Quiz: Mysterious song

Todayโ€™s quiz is about a mysterious song from a mysterious country! Can you guess where itโ€™s from? Pay attention to the language and style.

Afandi English
This song is from ...
Ouch!

๐Ÿ’ก This song was from the ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑNetherlands and the language was Dutch. It sounds like something between English and German with a lot of the [x] consonant. Interestingly, Dutch has all three [r] pronunciations โ€“ the rolling [r] of English, the trilling [r] of Spanish (and Uzbek) and the guttural [r] of French, or [gโ€™] in Uzbek.
#129 Our favourite mistakes: Vocabulary

โ–ถ๏ธ Please translate the following sentence:
Ko'z oynak taqishning bazi afzal tomonlari bor.

โŒ Perhaps you think it is:
There are some advantage sides of wearing eye glasses.

โœ… Well, it should be:
There are some advantages of wearing glasses.

โ“Why?

โ—๏ธ Glasses and advantages are perfectly clear as one word in English. Do not translate word for word from Uzbek!

โ—๏ธ Another example is Islom dini in Uzbek, the translation of which is just Islam, not Islam religion as it is clear enough that Islam is a religion.

โ—๏ธ Language is another example, see this post.
