#12 Know Your World: The true size of Africa
▶️ Africa is often poorly understood. Some people think it’s one country, some people think it’s not so big and, worst of all, some people think that this place doesn’t matter much. Meanwhile Asia is ageing and Africa is the youngest and may soon become the most dynamic (=active, developing fast) continent.

#75 Afandi Quiz: Cultural Misunderstanding
Today’s quiz is about a cultural misunderstanding in the following situation:
▶️ Selma and Lars are young couple from 🇸🇪Sweden. For their honeymoon (=a trip right after one’s wedding) they travel to 🇬🇷Greece and spend a romantic two-week holiday on an island in the Mediterranean Sea (=the sea between Europe and Africa). They decide to rent a car to explore the island. Right on the first day they almost crash the car as they drive on a narrow mountain slope (=a road going up or down) and see cars on the other side flashing their lights.

What's the misunderstanding?
Pretty good!
👍 Traffic is a hotbed (=a place where a lot of bad things happen) of culture clashes. Unlike Southerners, Northern Europeans are relatively gentle drivers who stop at zebra crossings and rarely break rules.

#10 A Good Laugh: Covid memes
▶️ Within just two years covid has turned our world upside down. That’s of course not funny but whatever problem we face, human stupidity makes for (=causes) some entertaining side effects.

#112 Our favourite mistakes: Vocabulary
▶️ Please translate the following sentence:
Yoki darsga vaqtida kirasiz yoki darsdan keyin o‘n bir yigirmada kelasiz.
❌ Perhaps you think it is:
Or you enter to the class on time or you come after the class at eleven and twenty.
✅ Well, it should be:
Either you come to the class on time or you come after the class at eleven twenty.
❓Why?
❗️ “Or … or …” is an Uzbek and Russian construction. In English it is “Either … or …”.
❗️ The verb enter is used without the preposition to.
❗️ Entering a class is emphasizing that someone physically enters the classroom but doesn’t mean that someone is a student or participates in the class. Come and go are preferred here.
❗️ When telling the time there is no and between the hour and the minutes, unless you use o’clock.
