Well done!

๐Ÿ‘ Germany was obviously right. Thereโ€™s some German language to be spotted on the guyโ€™s T-shirt and in the background you can see the Brandenburg Gate, a famous landmark of Berlin. The 9th of November is an important day in Germany โ€“ itโ€™s the day that the Berlin Wall came down in 1989.
#7 A Good Laugh: Hilarious Headlines

โ–ถ๏ธ Take a look at these poorly written newspaper headlines and find the jokes!

#96 Our favourite mistakes: Spelling

โ–ถ๏ธ Look at these two sentences:
I wonder If it rains tomorrow.
I think It is very interesting.

โ“ Whatโ€™s wrong here?

โ—๏ธ Some students have the strange habit of writing the two words if and it with capital letters. Thereโ€™s no reason to do that!

#62 Travelogue Uzbekistan: Linguistic crossroads

Uzbekistan โ€“ the heart of Central Asia. A space of in-between-ness. Between a Russian past and an international future. Between different languages with different alphabets. No wonder that things get a bit messy sometimes:

English
When English words enter the Russian language they are put into the Cyrillic script. As these words travel on to Uzbekistan they are put back into the Latin script but donโ€™t quite match the original English spelling.

Gibberish
English just looks so damn cool, doesnโ€™t it? Right or wrong โ€“ who cares? Since when is KFC a dish? And do the French fries really not cost anything?

Russian
Hasty Latinisation can literally spell disaster! The Cyrillic E is YE in Latin and ะ– in Cyrillic Uzbek is J in Latin Uzbek, not ZH. Good job, presidential school!

A bit of everything
โ€œOsiyo Trade Biznesโ€ โ€“ wow, thatโ€™s Uzbek, English and latinised Russian all in one.

---Vocab---
๐Ÿ“linguistic = about the science of language ๐Ÿ“crossroads = the place where roads meet ๐Ÿ“Cyrillic script = the Russian writing system ๐Ÿ“gibberish = a non-existing language ๐Ÿ“hasty = rushed, done in a hurry ๐Ÿ“sth spells disaster = sth causes a big problem
