๐Ÿ“Š English Level: Advanced

๐Ÿ”ค Subtitles: Mostly available

๐Ÿ’ก Content: This channel has a wide and slightly random collection of videos for younger audiences. The style and topics are quite unconventional (=not ordinary, unlike others).

Well done!

๐Ÿ‘ Tajikistan was indeed the correct answer. The flag was obviously a hint but hey, the other countries also have the same colours in their flags! The statue hints at something Islamic though.

๐Ÿ‘Ž Iran was close enough but wrong. Iran is a theocracy (=a country ruled by religious leaders) without a strong presidential tradition, hence there wouldnโ€™t be such a big presidential palace. Italy was wrong. The Italian flag has vertical, not horizontal stripes. Hungary was also wrong despite the flag being a match.
#26 Tongue twister: TH nightmare

โ—๏ธChallenge yourself with this tongue twister:

โ–ถ๏ธ Something in a thicket of thorns and thistles thumped and thundered threatening the thoughts of Matthew the thug - although, thankfully, it was only the thirteen-thousand thistles and thorns through the underneath of his thigh that the thirty-year-old thug thought of that morning.

Translation:
Qushqonmas va tikanli chakalakzorda nimadir gumburlab-gursillab uradi Metyu bezorining xayollarini qorqitib, lekin shukurki, o'ttiz yoshli bezori, ertalab, sonining ostida deb oylagan tikonlar o'n uch mintagina edi.

โ—๏ธPay attention to:

๐Ÿ”˜ Pronunciation โ€“ the TH sounds: Donโ€™t miss any of them. Record yourself to check and train your ears. Pronunciation problems exist because we donโ€™t hear the difference.

#84 Our favourite mistakes: Writing

โ–ถ๏ธ Please take a look at the following placeholder text (=meaningless text, esp. for design):

โ“Whatโ€™s the problem?

โ—๏ธ The two paragraphs are marked by both indents (=space at the beginning of a line) and line breaks (=empty line). Choose one style only!

โ—๏ธ Indents are used in books and magazines for long, printed texts. They help us save paper. Online texts usually have line breaks. We can say that indents are a little bit old-fashioned nowadays.

#50 Travelogue UK: Night-seeing in London

People who donโ€™t travel much dream of sightseeing and taking photos in front of famous landmarks. I find it more interesting at night when you donโ€™t have to share with so many tourists. Check out London by night:

โ€ข Big Ben and Houses of Parliament
Big Ben is actually only the bell inside the clock tower. The Houses of Parliament is the seat of the British government.

โ€ข Westminster Abbey
Britainโ€™s most important church where all the royal weddings are held.

โ€ข Buckingham Palace
Where Queen Elizabeth II. lives.

โ€ข Trafalgar Square
A busy square full of tourists and pidgeons with a statue of Admiral Nelson who died in a victorious sea battle against France and Spain.

โ€ข The London Eye
The big Ferris wheel built for a celebration welcoming the year 2000.

โ€ข Piccadilly Circus
A big road junction with iconic illuminated advertising.

โ€ข Oxford Street
Londonโ€™s busiest street for shopping.
