The frog is ... a ... worm.
Good job. Mostly.

What’s this frog doing?
👍 It’s devouring the worm, which means eating without chewing, quickly, greedily and all in one go, just like an animal. 👎 Munching means eating noisily or loudly chewing, 👎 nibbling is what mice do with their little teeth, but frogs don’t have teeth. I think.

What’s the worm like?
👍 It’s slimy as you can tell by slime threads attached to the worm. 👎 Wobbly would describe a jelly-like substance that moves when shaken, 👎 filthy is a bad word for ‘dirty’.

#78 Our favourite mistakes: Pronunciation

▶️ Try pronouncing the following words:
air
chair
• hair
• pair
• share
• there

What do these words have in common?

❗️ They contain the double vowel [eə] but for some unknown reason many students insert an [i] sound in it. For clarity in Cyrillic (not Russian pronunciation):
• air – wrong: ейер, correct: ер
• chair – wrong: чейер, correct: чер
• hair – wrong: хейер, correct: хер
• pair – wrong: пейер, correct: пер
• share – wrong: шейер, correct: шер
• there – wrong: зейер, correct: зер

#44 Travelogue Uzbekistan: Mini markets

Here’s a good example for glocalisation: Uzbekistan’s countless mini markets. It’s become normal to replace the local oziq-ovqat do’koni with the cooler sounding mini market. Why glocalisation, you ask?

Globalisation
“Mini market” is English, the global language, and the same word is used in many countries, although not really in English-speaking countries. The idea of a mini market is also quite uniform – small in size but clean, modern, brightly lighted, well-stocked and with good service.

Localisation
Mini markets usually belong to chains, the biggest of which is probably 7-Eleven from Japan. In Uzbekistan, however, mini markets are simple small shops run by families.

---Vocab---
📍glocalisation = mix of globalisation and localisation 📍countless = very many 📍uniform (adj) = same-looking 📍well-stocked = having a lot of products 📍chain = company with many branches

Why can't I understand the English in this video?
It's actually gibberish. I just didn't want to make it a quiz to see how many of you falsely claim to understand every word.. 😝
