The brain of a dead male fruit fly was connected to a ROBOT β€” giving the fly a new body and allowing it to move freely through our world again.

The fly’s neural activity is translated into commands for motors that control the robot’s legs.

So, in a sense, the fly is… alive again.

β€œBlack Mirror” was a documentary.

πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ”₯ Why is France boiling over? Ongoing protests and bigger crisis explained

What began in late September as protests over crowded classrooms, teacher shortages, and lack of repairs to deteriorating schools has escalated into chaos, looting and arson.

♦️ unrest initially began on September 21 in the Paris region, then spread to Lille, Lyon, Marseille, and beyond

♦️ students blockaded schools, set fires, threw projectiles and clashed with riot police

♦️ University students joined, blocking around 30 campuses

♦️ ~170 students were injured; over 100 schools suffered damage

♦️ school principals were harassed or assaulted, some 65 school staff were injured

The protests come amid frustration over public services, living costs, surging immigration, and government spending under President Emmanuel Macron.

πŸ”΄ France’s public debt has climbed to ~119% of GDP

πŸ”΄ interest now rival or exceed spending on defense & education

πŸ”΄ government seeks ~$63 billion in savings and tax measures but faces fractured parliament

A familiar precedent was set by the Yellow Vests: what began in 2018 with anger over fuel prices and taxes spiraled into a nationwide revolt that nearly toppled the presidency.

Layered on top is geopolitical self-harm:

➑️ the continuing aid to Ukraine that drains French resources

➑️ rejection of Russian energy that has hammered households and industry with soaring prices

➑️ muted response to the US war on Iran that triggered the Persian Gulf crisis

πŸ‡«πŸ‡·βš‘οΈ- Race-based riots in French high schools and universities have spread to dozens of locations throughout the week. Initially, it began as a movement to ask for better funding and infrastructure in poorly-funded establishments before spreading to schools with high amounts of immigration-based students for the sake of chaos. Far-left immigrationnist party LFI has tried to bolster the movement, which initially succeeded before spiraling out of control yesterday when one of their figureheads, Antoine LΓ©aument, lost control of a youth crowd and got overwhelmed.

TIL that British WW2 general Bernard Montgomery was later hugely critical of the American approach in the Vietnam War, believing that America had no clear central objective and allowed individual commanders to decide on the ground.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ίβ›½οΈ Trump claims Europe agrees to tap diesel reserves as fuel crisis deepens

Europe has consented to release a β€œmassive amount” of diesel from strategic stocks, President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social, as tight supplies keep prices high.

Reuters earlier reported that EU governments were discussing a French proposal to release 50M barrels of diesel, while IEA members could release another 50M barrels of crude.

European refineries are already running close to full capacity, and diesel stocks at the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub remain below their five-year average.

Prices have jumped across major markets. European wholesale diesel recently rose above $1,500 per metric ton, while US pump prices hit a record $6.50 per gallon.

Russian export restrictions and China’s suspension of October fuel shipments have added to the squeeze. The sharpest shock, however, came from the US-Israel war with Iran, which disrupted Middle Eastern energy flows and sent diesel prices higher worldwide.

The point about social media not needing to censor because it drowns out dissident voices in a sea of slop, was a deliberate operation first proposed by Cass Sunstein in a 2008 working paper.
