The United States Postal Service is running a pilot program to put cameras in its mail carrier trucks that continuously scan roads and signs, map roadways and sidewalks, to improve “community safety,” according to a letter posted by a labor union and a statement from the agency to 404 Media. The idea is that, since the trucks are constantly traveling anyway, they can be used as a way to collect data, eventually potentially across the nation. I suspect they were already there, and have been for some time, hence the Postal Service Truck of Death phenomenon. When they parked those trucks there, somewhere, somebody in a control room would have the video up on the big screen. They might be afraid when everything comes out, it will look bad if the cameras come to light, and they had been running them covertly. This brings them out into the open, and lets them claim it is old news. For that matter I have noted on the spectrum analyzer when some surveillance cars pass, there is a burst of about 2.4 Ghz, which I suspect is either them blasting the house with a WiFi beam to see inside, or they are backdooring routers in homes as they pass to upload whatever they monitor, from hidden video cameras on the car to rf spectrum analysis data.
