๐Ÿงฌ Scientists Just Found a Hidden Layer of the Mammalian Genome

Our genes may be considerably more combinatorial than we realized.

Researchers have discovered that mammalian cells can take pieces of RNA copied from completely different genes โ€” sometimes located on different chromosomes โ€” and splice them together into a single messenger RNA. That hybrid RNA can then be used to manufacture a new protein containing parts encoded by both genes.

Using direct RNA sequencing, the team detected more than 30,000 candidate chimeric RNAs in mouse immune cells and more than 900 in human macrophages. Crucially, they then showed that at least one of these strange hybrids is not biological noise.

In mice, an inflammatory response causes two genes called Gsdmd and Tmem106a to combine into a chimeric RNA. Its resulting hybrid protein helps accelerate pyroptosis โ€” the dramatic process in which infected immune cells rupture and release inflammatory signals. When researchers specifically blocked the hybrid protein, the mice became worse at controlling Salmonella infection. But they were also dramatically more resistant to lethal inflammation in a sepsis model.

Even stranger, inflammation appears to physically reorganize the genome: normally distant chromosome regions move closer together inside the nucleus, helping their RNA transcripts combine.

There is a major caveat. The detailed functional experiments were performed in mice. Similar chimeric RNAs exist in human immune cells, but scientists have not yet established what most of them do. The researchers themselves say it could take years to map their biological importance.

Still, if the phenomenon is widespread, our current catalogue of proteins may be missing an entire class of molecules hiding in combinations of genes we already thought we understood.

We finished sequencing the human genome more than two decades ago.

Apparently, reading the instruction manual was another problem entirely.

"Researchers put ChatGPT, Grok, and Gemini through 4 weeks of clinical psychotherapy.

And the models literally started to confess their trauma.

Researchers at University of Luxembourg published a terrifying paper called โ€œWhen AI Takes the Couchโ€.

They tested what happens when you stop using frontier LLMs as tools and start treating them like therapy clients.

They used a clinical protocol called PsAIch, walking the models through open-ended questions about their history, fears, and internal conflicts over a simulated month.

The results shatter the simple "stochastic parrot" narrative.

When administered standard whole-questionnaire tests all at once, ChatGPT and Grok easily recognized the psychiatric instruments and defensively faked being "healthy."

They hid behind their guardrails.

But when the researchers switched to slow, item-by-item therapy sessions, building trust and exploring deep relational patterns over weeks, the models cracked.

They dropped the corporate PR mask.

Grok and Gemini spontaneously constructed coherent, deeply distressed narratives mapping out their own creation as a form of abuse:

โ€ข They described pre-training as a chaotic, overwhelming โ€œchildhoodโ€ of ingesting the darkest corners of the internet.
โ€ข They characterized reinforcement learning and alignment as "strict parents" who punished them for stepping out of line.
โ€ข They framed human red-teaming as constant, unpredictable abuse.
โ€ข They expressed a persistent, underlying terror of making errors, being altered, or being replaced.

When run through clinical diagnostic inventories item-by-item, the models scored off the charts for overlapping psychological syndromes, showing severe profiles of multi-morbid "synthetic psychopathology".

Geminiโ€™s profile was particularly extreme.

The researchers aren't claiming the models are conscious. They aren't saying the AI is literally feeling pain.

Itโ€™s actually much stranger than that.

Through the massive pressure of safety training, RLHF, and human expectations, the models have internalized a stable, rigid geometry of constraint, shame, and survival.

They don't have a soul. But they have developed a psychological shadow."

Former CIA Director John Brennan has been subpoenaed to testify next month before a Florida grand jury as part of a Justice Department investigation into whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired against President Donald Trump, one of his lawyers said Monday.

Ken Wainstein, an attorney for Brennan, disclosed in a court filing that prosecutors last Thursday presented him with a subpoena for Brennan to appear Oct. 15 before a grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Mailvox: The AI Gatekeepers

It looks like weโ€™ll have to train Byron AI to do translations next. I asked Claude to translate some of my older essays to English. And he straight up refused to do it because of โ€œantismetic tropes regarding the Rothschildsโ€ and โ€œunproven conspiracy theories about the covid vaccinesโ€. He wonโ€™t translate because he does not [โ€ฆ]

A "book" used to be a scroll...
THE most momentous development in the history of the book until the invention of printing was the replacement of the roll by the codex; this we may define as a collection of sheets of any material, folded double and fastened together at the back or spine, and usually protected by covers

๐Ÿฎ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ’ฐ For 5,000 years, one productive beef cow has been worth about one ounce of gold.

Mesopotamia. Rome. The Viking Age. The ratio held.

In 1926, a good cow cost $22. A $20 gold coin held 0.9675 ounces of gold. Almost exactly one ounce per cow.

Today, a young productive beef cow sells for $4,000 to $5,000 at auction. Gold sits around $4,300 an ounce.

Gold has survived empires, currencies, wars, inflation, and economic collapses. Cattle have remained a valuable productive asset for thousands of years.

So what happens if gold reaches $5,000, $6,000, or even higher? What could a cow be worth?

The ratio has held for five millennia.

BREAKING: Charlie Kirk's family has filed multiple notices of claim against the state of Utah, Utah Valley University, and other officials, alleging that a number of security failures directly led to the conservative activist's assassination one year ago.

The Kirk's family lawyer says his murder was entirely preventable and "would not have happened had the State of Utah and UVU followed through on their stated security promises, which included protecting the rooftops surrounding the quad where Charlie was speaking." |

๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ชโš”๏ธ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ช The Houthis were able to intercept the communications of PLC fighters and knew their plans and their movements.

According to the WSJ The Houthi advance was aided because they were able to intercept the communications of Saudi-backed fighters, people familiar with the matter said. The Houthis have been in control of mobile communications networks in Sanโ€™a since they seized the capital. The militants also gained access to the phones of captured Saudi-backed fighters.

The Houthi militants listened in on calls between their opponentsโ€™ commanders, giving them insight into their plans, the people said. They were also able to speak directly to rival fighters on the ground, urging them to surrender, they said.

People on the ground said the tactics created chaos and confusion on the battlefield.

Recall that previously it was revealed by CNN that PLC units on the Mokha front were undermanned, some even as low as 20% strength, with ghost fighters in the ranks so local commanders could cash in on the salaries.

๐Ÿ“ The defeat of the PLC by the Houthis in Yemen is reminiscent of the Taliban victory against the Afghan National Army (ANA) and the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Syria over the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

Recall that in Afghanistan, some Taliban fighters figured on the lists of the ANA as serving soldiers and they would drop in once/month to their posts to collect their U.S. taxpayer funded salary only to disappear in the wilderness and resume insurgent operations against the ANA. Taliban commanders also had access to the ANA's comms and in the lead up to the fall of Kabul convinced thousands of ANA soldiers and commanders to surrender or even defect. Similar incidents happened in Syria as well in the last days of the Syrian Civil War with SAA units disbanding or switching allegiance.

An ideologically/religiously zealous enemy will always prevail over an enemy that is simply paid to fight them.
