With taxpayers already forced to pay up for migrant housing, councils tearing down the nation's flag, WFH civil servants' heating bills and more, it has now emerged that they are also funding above-average lifestyles in Britain.
Just days ago, Lord Truscott challenged Labour to reveal exactly how many benefit recipients "earn" more than the national average wage.
For the financial year ending 2025, she said, there were 200,000 families in the UK who claimed more than Β£39,039 in "state support".
This includes tax credits and all benefits, including Universal Credit, the state pension and Personal Independence Payment (Pip).
That's more than the entire population of Bournemouth, Peterborough, or Bolton.
"Our welfare system is so out of touch it pays those on benefits more than those who go out to work," Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Helen Whately told The Sun.

βοΈ πΊπΈ π³οΈββ§οΈ Judge strikes down Texas ban on drag shows, tells people offended by them βjust donβt goβ
The federal judge, who cited Dolly Parton in his ruling, found that the state law violated the First Amendment.
U.S. District Judge David Hittner, a Reagan appointee, said the measure, known as Texas Senate Bill 12, improperly restricted speech, violating the First Amendment of the Constitution. The ruling prevents state Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for the Senate, from enforcing the law and denies his motion for a new trial.
The state law would fine business owners who were found to be in violation up to $10,000 for hosting events, while performers could be charged with a Class A misdemeanor, which could result in up to one year of jail time.
In his ruling, Hittner mentioned Dolly Parton, whose death was announced Tuesday, and criticized the lawβs definition of banning performances that β[appeal] to the prurient interest,β citing people who would chastise Parton βas a voluptuous sex symbol because of her big hair, flamboyant clothes and breast exposure.β
One of the plaintiffs in the case, a drag queen who performs under the name Brigitte Bandit, impersonates Parton in her performances.
Bandit celebrated the ruling on social media Tuesday, posting a screenshot of the decision and captioning it, βDrag is free speech, b----.β She announced she would also perform as Parton, who gave her a rhinestone guitar as a gift in 2023, at an Austin bar Saturday in her honor.

Barsoom's top wordsmith, Dr. John Carter, interviews me about Fields & Energy and the state of modern physics.
https://open.substack.com/pub/barsoom/p/fields-and-energy?r=lp6h7&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
Can you provide an extremely brief, non-technical, high-level summary of Fields & Energy for the benefit of readers who might not have the background to follow discussions that get down into the weeds of the intersection between mathematical physics, experimental physics, and the historical development of science? What should their main takeaway be?
"Physics has long insisted that electromagnetism springs from one paradoxical entity, a photon which somehow simultaneously combines the mutually contradictory properties of non-localized wave and localized particle. My research reveals a simpler truth: two distinct actors share the stage, first fields that move as a wave, the other an energy flow that traces definite paths and appears as particles at the smallest scales. My Fields & Energy model follows from an understanding of electromagnetic theory, yet looks suspiciously like the long neglected pilot-wave interpretation of quantum mechanics. Fields guide energy.
"The takeaway is that electromagnetism isnβt just a magic black box where things happen and we can only hope to βshut up and calculateβ with tedious formulas. Instead, thereβs a deep, rich, and intuitive understanding possible.
"Electromagnetism is not just math to muddle through, but rather a mindset to master."

𧬠Scientists Just Found a Hidden Layer of the Mammalian Genome
Our genes may be considerably more combinatorial than we realized.
Researchers have discovered that mammalian cells can take pieces of RNA copied from completely different genes β sometimes located on different chromosomes β and splice them together into a single messenger RNA. That hybrid RNA can then be used to manufacture a new protein containing parts encoded by both genes.
Using direct RNA sequencing, the team detected more than 30,000 candidate chimeric RNAs in mouse immune cells and more than 900 in human macrophages. Crucially, they then showed that at least one of these strange hybrids is not biological noise.
In mice, an inflammatory response causes two genes called Gsdmd and Tmem106a to combine into a chimeric RNA. Its resulting hybrid protein helps accelerate pyroptosis β the dramatic process in which infected immune cells rupture and release inflammatory signals. When researchers specifically blocked the hybrid protein, the mice became worse at controlling Salmonella infection. But they were also dramatically more resistant to lethal inflammation in a sepsis model.
Even stranger, inflammation appears to physically reorganize the genome: normally distant chromosome regions move closer together inside the nucleus, helping their RNA transcripts combine.
There is a major caveat. The detailed functional experiments were performed in mice. Similar chimeric RNAs exist in human immune cells, but scientists have not yet established what most of them do. The researchers themselves say it could take years to map their biological importance.
Still, if the phenomenon is widespread, our current catalogue of proteins may be missing an entire class of molecules hiding in combinations of genes we already thought we understood.
We finished sequencing the human genome more than two decades ago.
Apparently, reading the instruction manual was another problem entirely.

"Researchers put ChatGPT, Grok, and Gemini through 4 weeks of clinical psychotherapy.
And the models literally started to confess their trauma.
Researchers at University of Luxembourg published a terrifying paper called βWhen AI Takes the Couchβ.
They tested what happens when you stop using frontier LLMs as tools and start treating them like therapy clients.
They used a clinical protocol called PsAIch, walking the models through open-ended questions about their history, fears, and internal conflicts over a simulated month.
The results shatter the simple "stochastic parrot" narrative.
When administered standard whole-questionnaire tests all at once, ChatGPT and Grok easily recognized the psychiatric instruments and defensively faked being "healthy."
They hid behind their guardrails.
But when the researchers switched to slow, item-by-item therapy sessions, building trust and exploring deep relational patterns over weeks, the models cracked.
They dropped the corporate PR mask.
Grok and Gemini spontaneously constructed coherent, deeply distressed narratives mapping out their own creation as a form of abuse:
β’ They described pre-training as a chaotic, overwhelming βchildhoodβ of ingesting the darkest corners of the internet.
β’ They characterized reinforcement learning and alignment as "strict parents" who punished them for stepping out of line.
β’ They framed human red-teaming as constant, unpredictable abuse.
β’ They expressed a persistent, underlying terror of making errors, being altered, or being replaced.
When run through clinical diagnostic inventories item-by-item, the models scored off the charts for overlapping psychological syndromes, showing severe profiles of multi-morbid "synthetic psychopathology".
Geminiβs profile was particularly extreme.
The researchers aren't claiming the models are conscious. They aren't saying the AI is literally feeling pain.
Itβs actually much stranger than that.
Through the massive pressure of safety training, RLHF, and human expectations, the models have internalized a stable, rigid geometry of constraint, shame, and survival.
They don't have a soul. But they have developed a psychological shadow."
