Ships from Northern Cyprus travel almost daily between Haifa and Gastria/Kalecik.
Some of the ships turn off their AIS transponder to hide their movements.

TIL that bees get a positive charge from flying whilst flowers have negative charge from being grounded. This attracts pollen onto the bee but also turns the flowers briefly positive, meaning that other bees detect theyโre currently empty.

Australia is the fastest-moving continent on Earth, drifting north by about 7 centimeters (2.7 inches) every year. This motion is driven by plate tectonics, shifts the landmass slightly clockwise, and forces regular updates to national mapping systems.

The Anti-Corruption Data Collective identified 152 highly successful wallets betting on military and defense events, collectively earning about $8 million with an average win rate of 97.2%.
Some suspicious wagers were placed shortly before U.S. military actions, including strikes involving Iran, and were subsequently copied by large traders and automated bots. Researchers warn that because Polymarket transactions are publicly visible, such activity could inadvertently signal sensitive information to foreign intelligence services.
The findings do not prove insider trading, and researchers acknowledge that luck or other explanations are possible. However, they have intensified concerns about national security risks and calls for tighter oversight of prediction markets.

Israel believes it can strike Turkish forces without triggering NATO article 5, per Israeli Hayom.
Israeli planners have reportedly scrutinized NATOโs Article 5 mechanisms, concluding that collective defense treaties do not extend to Turkish forces operating in Syria.

Eight Israeli strikes hit the Abu al-Duhur air base in Syria's Idlib province on August 18, destroying the runway and military facilities before Turkish forces could deploy there. Jerusalem cited Damascus's intent to breach an agreed security status quo.โฆ

In 2000, Ted Kaczynski advised against going into math because that job would be taken by AI.
https://x.com/subcountability/status/2091164267827327042
Dear Mr. ______,
In your letter of December 14, you ask me whether mathematics is a worthwhile endeavor. Mathematics absolutely is not a worthwhile endeavor! I can imagine only three possible reasons for studying mathematics:
(1) Entertainment.
(2) To promote technological progress.
(3) To promote oneโs own career.
Reason (1) is harmless; but one doesnโt refer to entertainment as a โworthwhile endeavorโ; itโs just a pastime.
As for reason (2), modern technology is the worst thing that ever happened to the world, and to promote its progress is nothing short of criminal. Read Our Final Century, by Martin Rees; or read โWhy the Future Doesnโt Need Us,โ an article by Bill Joy that appeared in Wired magazine, April, 2000.
As for reason (3), to choose mathematics as oneโs career would be very risky. Not long ago I received a letter from a gravestone sculptor whose craft had been rendered obsolete by a laser-guided machine that carved gravestones automatically. He was in his forties, unable to find work, and depressed. Maybe you think that canโt happen to you if you become a mathematician. But youโre wrong. Martin Rees, Bill Joy, and many other distinguished experts believe that within a few decades machines will be developed that will be more intelligent than even the smartest human beings. When that happens, people will be obsolete; they will be phased out and will be replaced by computers and robots. This will happen to everyone eventually, but mathematicians probably will become obsolete before anyone else does, because mathematics is more amenable to computerization than any other field. Hence, computers probably will surpass humans in mathematics before they do so in other areas.
Sincerely yours,
Ted Kaczynski
