๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ทโš”๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Contrary to popular belief, the USS Abraham Lincoln isn't supplied from Diego Garcia. It is supplied from Singapore.

The New York Times falsely reported that Diego Garcia is serving as a logistics support base for Navy ships in the Middle East.

Sal Mercogliano corrected the record with data showing logistics is running out of Singapore and Mombasa, Kenya. He argued, due to proximity, Diego Garcia should be used instead, but thanks to the Army defunding its prepositioned ships there, Ready Reserve ships and logistics personnel would have to surge first.

It is unclear whether these ships will carry people to the island to build out logistics capacity or simply replace the passenger planes already serving it.

Here is the part nobody in the Pentagon wants to say out loud: sealift is the pressure relief valve for every air plan that fails. When the sky closes, the ocean is the only way out, and the ocean requires ships, crews and escorts we have not built.

The Ready Reserve Force is not a fleet. It is a museum with a maintenance budget. Average hull age north of 45 years, steam plants almost nobody is trained to run, and a mariner pool too small to crew a full activation for a sustained campaign.

The NVSM ships, that also serve to train maritime cadets, that might activate in support of this mission are new but California Maritime Academy hosts the only training ship in the Pacific and their NVSM is still under construction in Philly.

Their current ship, the TS Golden Bear, is old and has less bed space. The Department of Transportation under Biden foolishly scrapped the old training ship already replaced on the East Coast rather than putting them in the once crowded, now almost empty, Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet (know as the pacific Ghost Fleet).

No reserve ships have anti-air defenses installed aboard.

Bottom line is this activation, if it happens, is a tell. You do not reach for the Ready Reserve to move passengers unless the air option is degraded or expected to degrade.

Watch three things this week: MARAD activation orders, any change in Navy Military Sealift Command traffic through Singapore and Mombasa, and whether Diego Garcia starts receiving sealift instead of airlift.

90% of Russia's Grain Export capacity is offline

More than 90% of Russiaโ€™s grain export capacity in the Azov-Black Sea basin has been taken offline following Ukrainian attacks and navigation restrictions, disrupting the [usually-huge-exporter!!]โ€™s main corridor during the busiest part of the season.

All three grain terminals at the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk suspended operations last week. Together, the terminals had handled around 25 million metric tons of Russian grain exports.

โ€œPractically all Russian grain exports through the Azov-Black Sea basin are at a standstill,โ€ said Andrei Sizov.

This is contributing to a perfect storm of conditions โ€” working on a video report about the whole picture now...

"In the 1950โ€™s when Redstone Arsenal was first firing up as a missile development center, American Machine and Foundry Co. began to buy up the mountain. Their plan was to quarry out the inside, sell the rock, then make the hollow mountain into an underground missile plant. Although they and the city Chamber of Commerce used โ€œstrong-armโ€ tactics to get mountain residents to sell, a few people held out and refused. Two of these were the Hamiltons and the Moores, (each with 40 acres at about 13,300 Shawdee.) Some of those who left at this time, moved to Keel Mt. Of course, the dream of the underground factory never came about and AMF sold their entire holdings to a group consisting principally of Buck Creek Industries and Lane Realty Co."

๐Ÿ“ข ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ JD Vance shouted out his friend Vivek Ramaswamy at an Ohio steelworkersโ€™ rally, calling him the next โ€œgreatโ€ governor of Ohio.

Vance gushed about an internet meme in which someone jokingly replaced his son, Vivek Vance, with Vivek Ramaswamy before handing Ramaswamy the podium.

Vivek Ramaswamy has been outspoken in support of โ€œhigh-skilledโ€ foreign labor to replace American workers, whom he infamously characterized as lazy.

Chalub and the Kimura Cancellation

In 2022 a Portuguese mathematician named Fabio Chalub published a paper solving the neutral Kimura equation called Solution of the Neutral Kimura equation with two integral constraints. It is not a critique of neutral theory. Chalub gives no sign that he is even aware that anyone is contesting neutral theory. He is a specialist in [โ€ฆ]

๐Ÿšœ Farmers are selling their pre-purchased fertilizer at double what they paid instead of planting a crop.

Let that sink in. It is more profitable to sit out the season and flip your input costs than to put seed in the ground.

Soybean farmers lost $100 an acre last year. Corn farmers are looking at $50 to $100 losses this year. So what is the response? Switch from corn to soybeans.

Soybeans make their own nitrogen. They do not need the fertilizer corn demands.

The problem is we are already oversupplied on soybeans. More soybeans on a flooded market just drives prices lower.

Fertilizer prices have gone through the roof. The Strait of Hormuz disruptions made it worse. Farmers who locked in fertilizer early are reselling it instead of using it.

That is how broken the commodity food system has become.

I and Pangur Bรกn, my cat,
'Tis a like task we are at;
Hunting mice is his delight,
Hunting words I sit all night.

Better far than praise of men
'Tis to sit with book and pen;
Pangur bears me no ill-will,
He, too, plies his simple skill.

'Tis a merry thing to see
At our tasks how glad are we,
When at home we sit and find
Entertainment to our mind.

Oftentimes a mouse will stray
In the hero Pangur's way;
Oftentimes my keen thought set
Takes a meaning in its net.

'Gainst the wall he sets his eye
Full and fierce and sharp and sly;
'Gainst the wall of knowledge I
All my little wisdom try.

When a mouse darts from its den,
O! how glad is Pangur then;
O! what gladness do I prove
When I solve the doubts I love.

So in peace our task we ply,
Pangur Bรกn, my cat, and I;
In our arts we find our bliss,
I have mine, and he has his.

Practice every day has made
Pangur perfect in his trade;
I get wisdom day and night,
Turning darkness into light.
