Neil Oliver describes world leaders as irrelevant puppets controlled by faceless elites operating behind the scenes.

He argues that maintaining a permanent state of anxiety among the publicβ€”through higher taxes and engineered social conflictβ€”is a deliberate tactic to facilitate manipulation, division and control.

🀑 Russia threatens the UK with β€œserious consequences” for supplying drones to Ukraine

The Russian Embassy in London said that the use of these UAVs to strike targets deep inside Russia indicates London’s desire to β€œescalate the war.”

Russian diplomats accused the British authorities of facilitating Ukrainian strikes and said that Britain β€œwill bear responsibility” for its continued support for Ukraine.

They also warned that the more active London’s military assistance is, β€œthe more serious the consequences will be for it.”

πŸ‡²πŸ‡²πŸ€πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί Myanmar’s Min Aung Hlaing seeks closer ties with Putin

Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing is due to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin later on August 18, on his first visit to Moscow since taking office in April following a widely criticised election.

According to The Business Times, the Kremlin said the two leaders will discuss closer co-operation and regional and international issues, with several agreements expected to be signed. Myanmar’s President Office said the talks will cover the economy, security and social affairs.

Russia is one of the few major countries to have maintained close ties with Myanmar’s military rulers since the 2021 coup. Much of the West has instead isolated the government.

The relationship spans nuclear technology and defence. Myanmar is working with Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation to build a small nuclear power plant. The project is intended as an initial step towards using nuclear technology in health, agriculture and industry.

Russia has also been a major supplier of advanced weapons to Myanmar’s military. It supplied more than $400mn worth of weapons after the coup, according to a United Nations report published in May 2023.

The Moscow meeting is the latest in a series of overseas visits by Min Aung Hlaing as he seeks greater acceptance for his government following the disputed election.

He has now travelled to China, India, Laos and Thailand since Myanmar’s military-backed parliament selected him as president. His administration has also sought to improve relations with the US and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, while rejecting calls to release ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi. A high-level Myanmar delegation, including several ministers and the head of the Myanmar Space Agency, arrived in Moscow on August 17.

"But somewhere along the way, Nike turned into a corporate social-justice warrior that just happened to sell sneakers on the side.

"It started really going downhill when Colin Kaepernick, the not-so-great former NFL quarterback, became the face of their 30th anniversary β€œJust Do It” campaign. Nike even killed a Betsy Ross flag sneaker after Kaepernick complained about it. Later, Nike hooked up with controversial trans activist Dylan Mulvaney to advertise women’s leggings and a sports bra. Remember, Dylan is the guy who nearly took down the entire Bud Light empire with one ad campaign.

"But Nike didn’t learn from Bud Light’s mistakes. They went full DEI and poured tons of money and resources into all things racial and social-justice. Their former CEO John Donahoe proudly described DEI and social justice as one of Nike’s β€œcore” brand values."

TIL astronomer James Bradley set out in the 1720s to measure stellar parallax; in pursuing it, he discovered aberration of light, provided direct observational evidence of Earth's orbit around the Sun, and estimated the speed of light with remarkable accuracy. He never detected the stellar parallax.
