Sinking Basilica in Mexico City
Originally built on an island in the middle of a lake, Mexico City sits on soft and permeable soils. More than 70% of Mexico Cityβs water supply comes from the aquifers located beneath it. As the city has grown, these groundwater reservoirs have been drained at an alarming rate, leaving voids behind. The land soon subsides, or sinks, into these empty voids. The effects are visible throughout the city.

TIL in 1975 the Metric Conversion Act was signed into law. It declares the metric system as the USAβs preferred weights and measures system. However it is not a mandate and all metrification is voluntary. The law has been largely ignored.

βοΈ πΊπΈ π³ A judge has ruled that corporations can vote in some Delaware elections.
Delaware Superior Court Judge Craig Karsnitz said the town of Fenwick Island was not diluting human votes by allowing companies βand other legal entities that own property to cast votes in municipal elections.
These "legal entities" and corporations make up about 12% of registered voters in the town.
In total Delaware has far more βcorporations chartered in the state than residents.
Judge Karsnitz rejected the constitutional arguments of the ACLU, including the claim that "entity" or corporate voting dilutes the political power of living people.
"Delaware, home to more corporations than people, is a fitting place for reality to outpace satire. The state constitutional provisions expressly enshrining corporate personhood reflect Delawareβs budgetary reliance on the billions in fees it raises annually from the more than 2 million business entities chartered there."
