And they introduced the debt practices, along with the weights and measures that they were taught by the Syrians and the other Near Eastern merchants, and they became a kind of mafia state. And they were overthrown by the leaders, usually from the leading families, but less prosperous part of the families, and they had a revolution. They were called tyrants. And they had a revolution to cancel the debts, redistribute the land, and lay the groundwork for democracy."

The Two Faces of Economics

Michael Hudson explains the difference between Western neoliberal economics based on prices and debt, and historical economics based on actual production of goods and services. "Star Wars is dead. The M-She-U and DCEU are gone too. Same goes for Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Doctor Who, James Bond, and on, and on, and on. And Hollywood laughs when fans complain about the destruction. After all, they hate their customers. But in the end, itโ€™s a good thing. It gives people a chance to discover new talesโ€”like the ones featured in the Big BasedCon Based Book Sale, which is going on now through September 12 just in time for BasedCon 2023."
