In the half-abandoned workshops of the Ethiopian railway, workers Goshou, Berhanu, and Basha struggle daily to keep their train alive. Covering the 207 kilometers through the desert takes over ten hours, sometimes even longer. And sometimes, the train doesn’t leave at all. Not far away, a new electrified line built by China threatens to render this historic route obsolete.
About Simon Desjobert
Trained in creative documentary at the University of Evry, he traveled to Egypt during the revolutionary period and co-directed Hana’s Spring, a film about the liberation of speech in public spaces, which was selected for the Cinéma du Réel festival in 2013. He also designs and leads creative workshops that result in collective works with diverse audiences.
