Epiphanius Monachus wrote one of the first reliable documented descriptions of Mary of Nazareth.
Epiphanius described her as a fair-skinned blonde with fair [blue?] eyes and a straight nose.⁽¹⁾
We recieve a similar description in the 14th century from the visions of St. Bridget of Sweden.
Bridget described Mary with having golden hair like sunbeams and cheeks of the fairest hue.⁽²⁾

The word bastard [מַמְזֵר or νόθος] means “mongrel” as used in the verse above. The NJB translates it as "half-breed".
