Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." - Romans 12:20

In Romans 12:20, we find a profound lesson on the transformative power of love and kindness. The verse encourages us to "feed your enemy if they are hungry; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on their head."

At first glance, this might seem counterintuitive. How can showing kindness to someone who has wronged us lead to anything positive? Yet, this is precisely the kind of radical love that Jesus exemplified. By responding to enemies with compassion, we shift the dynamics of the relationship. Instead of perpetuating a cycle of hostility and retribution, we introduce the possibility of healing and reconciliation.

The imagery of "heaping burning coals" is a vivid one. Historically, it could refer to an Egyptian ritual of penitence, where carrying a pan of hot coals on one's head symbolized a change of heart.

Thus, our acts of kindness might lead others to reflect on their actions and potentially transform their hearts.

In our modern world, where division and conflict are rampant, this teaching is more relevant than ever.

It calls us to rise above the fray and to act with a love that is not of this world. Such acts of unexpected generosity can break down barriers and open doors to spiritual growth for both parties.

Reflect on your own life: Is there someone you find difficult to love? What small act of kindness can you offer them today?

Remember, this is not about condoning harmful behavior but about planting seeds of peace and reconciliation. As you extend this grace, consider how it might also bring healing to your own heart and spirit.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart that seeks healing and restoration. You know the brokenness that exists in my relationships, and I ask for Your guidance and strength to mend what has been torn apart. Teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me, and to approach each situation with humility and grace.

Lord, help me to see others through Your eyes, with compassion and understanding.

May Your love be the foundation upon which I rebuild connections, and may peace and reconciliation prevail. Thank You for Your endless mercy and for the new beginnings You offer. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Amen.

When I say “trust the plan”, I mean to trust God’s plan.

God is in control. God has already won.

But it doesn’t mean there won’t be pain and uncomfortable times.

Look at it this way: Jesus Christ went through more pain and suffering than the human mind can comprehend.

But look at the result: Saving humanity from sin.

Would anyone say that God wasn’t in control then?

Trust in Him and His timing. Everything happens exactly when it is meant to.
