If longshore workers at East and Gulf Coast ports go on strike Tuesday, as now appears likely, it could choke off the supplies of many popular products that flow over those docks. But not necessarily right away.
Businesses have been nervously watching the 12:01 am Tuesday strike deadline approaching with little sign of progress toward a deal to avoid a strike of tens of thousands longshore workers. Many have been doing what they can to prepare for the shutdown โ but there are limits.
It doesnโt make economic โ or logistical โ sense to ship many of the goods that come into East Coast ports by alternative ports of entry โ or by plane.
That means America could see some shortages of chocolate, alcohol, popular fruit, including bananas and cherries, and even certain cars if the strike lasts a long time. That could mean higher prices for the goods that are available.

4 stabbings in 9 hours in Long Beach โฆ
California has some of the toughest gun laws in the country.
Wonder how many of these stabbings were in โGun Freeโ zones?
Here is your reminder that gun control doesnโt fucking work.
Criminals will always find means of inflicting harm and violence.
How do you mitigate knife attacks? By bringing your gun to the knife fight.
The ability to arm and defend ourselves is arguably the most important key to maintaining status as a sovereign individual.
Remember that.

Folks, there's no way to surgarcoat it. The situation in Western North Carolina is becoming more dire by the hour. Residents are still without power and do not readily have access to food and water. I am urging Governor Roy Cooper to send in more help immediately. We need to deploy more National Guard personnel, and surge additional Search and Rescue teams.

UPDATE: Officials announced that the shelter-in-place for all of Rockdale County has been extended indefinitely.
Rockdale County Fire Chief Marian McDaniel explained that the large plume of smoke seen by residents is due to a chemical reaction. Cleanup efforts are still underway at the site. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Georgia's Environmental Protection Division (EPD) are on the scene to assess any potential health risks.
Officials still have not identified the chemical responsible for the reaction, but an update on Monday morning said that the irritant chlorine was detected in the air emitting from the incident location of BioLab.

1 hour before the outage Verizon Communications Inc., the biggest wireless carrier in the US, agreed to sell the rights to lease thousands of mobile phone towers to digital infrastructure firm Vertical Bridge.
Vertical Bridge will obtain the exclusive rights to lease, operate and manage the portfolio of 6,339 towers for about $3.3 billion, according to a statement on Monday that confirmed earlier Bloomberg News reporting.
Under terms of the deal, Verizon has entered into a 10-year agreement to lease back capacity on the towers, which are located in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., from Vertical Bridge. Verizon has an option to extend the term up to 50 years.
โThis transaction builds on our existing relationship with Vertical Bridge while realizing substantial value for this unique set of assets and allows us to be agile in optimizing the network with one of the best operating partners,โ Verizon Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Hans Vestberg said in the statement.
