The Profound Depth in the Guidance of Ahlulbayt Aiming to Raise a Generation of Scholars
📝Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi:
“Another important point is that we must gain more knowledge and awareness in regards to the actual depths of Imam Jaʿfar al-Sadiq (‘a)’s knowledge and how far he took this war of ideas during his era. When we look at the students of the Imam (‘a), we see that each one of them was a specialist in his own field.
The Imam (‘a) encouraged his students in developing these varying specialties so that each one could tackle an issue as a master in their own field.
There is a tradition which mentions that a man from Syria came to see the Imam (‘a) and he said that he had a question in regards to the Quran; this was while some of the companions of the Imam (‘a) were also present there. He asked the Imam (‘a) to give him the answer to his question. The Imam (‘a) said to one of his students named Ḥamrān: Give this man his answer in regards to the Quran. The Syrian man protested that he wanted the Imam (‘a)’s answer and not his students. The Imam (‘a) said: His answer is my answer; if you are able to, defeat him and you can consider me defeated as well. The Syrian man began to ask his questions and Ḥamrān answered each of them in a way where the man was left hopeless to prove his own point in the discussion.
The Imam (‘a) asked the man: How did you find Ḥamrān? The man replied: He was well learned in regards to all Quranic sciences. The man then said that he had another question in regards to Arabic literature. The Imam (‘a) turned to ʾAbān ibn Taghlib (one of his companions who specialized in this subject). The man asked his question from ʾAbān and he was satisfied with the answers. The Imam (‘a) asked the Syrian man: Do you have any other questions? The man said that he did and he asked in regard to an issue of jurisprudence.
The Imam (‘a) told him to refer to Zurārah, who was a master in that field. Zurārah similarly answered his questions until he was satisfied. The Syrian man then asked a question in regard to ʿAqāʾid (Islamic beliefs and ideology). The Imam (‘a) referred him to a man named Muʾmin al-Ṭāq whose speciality was in this field and in Kalām (scholastic theology). Muʾmin al-Ṭāq similarly answered all of his questions. The man finally said: Your companions are experts in every field!
This shows us that the school of Imam al-Sadiq (‘a) was a comprehensive school which delved in to every aspect of religious thought. The comprehensive nature of the knowledge taught by Imam al-Sadiq (‘a) is fully evident in the books which are published today in virtually every subject from Quranic commentary and Islamic ideology to jurisprudence and the principles of Jurisprudence, we find that the majority of the traditions are narrated from Imam al-Baqir (‘a) and Imam al-Sadiq (‘a). There are so many traditions related from these two Imams (‘a), and in particular Imam al-Sadiq (‘a), that it comes as no surprise that he is known as the ‘Leader of the Shia School of Thought’.”

Examining the Characteristics of the School of Imam Sadiq ('a) From the Viewpoint of Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi
Those who have not been able to subjugate the Muslims through war and sanctions have now proceeded to create doubts in order to influence the masses (and particularly the youth).

I sought to find ease during the crossing of the 'Bridge of Siraat' (which will happen on Day of Judgement), and found it in alms giving (sadaqah).

I searched for luminosity of face, and achieved it through night prayers (salat-al layl).

Imam Sadiq (peace be with him) said to Ishāq ibn Ammār: “Fear God as though you see Him, and if you do not see Him, then know that He sees you. If you assume that He does not see you then you have become a disbeliever, and if you know that He sees you but you still present before him sinfully then you have considered Him to be most insignificant!”

💠Imām Sadiq (peace be with him):
🔘I do not like to see any young man among you except as someone who is always striving in one of two situations: either as a scholar or a student. If he does not do so, he has fallen short. If he falls short, he has been squandered. If he squanders, he has sinned. If he sins, he will dwell in the Fire. By the One Who sent Muhammad with the truth."

💠Anbasah al-‘Abid has narrated the following: I once said to Abu ‘Abd Allah Imam Sadiq (peace be with him), “Give me some advice.”
He replied:
💠“Prepare your provisions, send them ahead, take charge of your own affairs, and do not rely on others to provide what will benefit you.”
