Friends! I've been looking at the news and thinking deeply about my responsibility towards you and the world as an artist. Because art is a window into other worlds, and choosing your subject matter matters. It's about what you want to invite into our realm, and what you want to keep out.

Motifs the world over are steeped in ancient symbolism, abstract as well as figurative, visual, sonic; visceral and rooted in real life experience. Life is not separate from art. Spirituality is not separate from life.
Traditional and religious art involves careful manipulations of the symbolic plane to achieve material and spiritual effects, for the well being of the individual and society. Those are time tested and tried. Improvements upon them are based on dedicated practical investigation into the nature of mind and Reality, and the transference of the wisdom retrieved into a specific cultural context.
Contemporary art freed the artist from the dogmatic constraints of form, but it did not provide an alternative foundation upon which they could build their investigations into the deeper layers of Self. As a result, many 20th century artists floated untethered into the astral world, bringing to life on their canvases spirits of desolation and depravity. Until then, such energies had remained in the formless realms of ideas, or were purposefully placed within magical talismans with the explicit goal of harnessing or transmuting them. These energies were now set free by unaware psychonauts, who were only mildly aware of the magical powers of the paintbrushes they were wielding.
It's impossible to take full advantage of the therapeutic potential of art without a solid grounding in knowledge of the mind. This has been missing, equated to superstition and woo-woo naivete. Pollock died as a result of his alcoholism, killing another person in a car crash. The 20th century trope of the tortured (male) artist is not accidental from an esoteric point of view. For all his genius, Pollock didn't heal himself - and hurt his close ones.
Surrealists tried to compensate, and it's no wonder many were involved in magic. The artist is an intermediary. From Kandinsky to the visionary artists of today, those who knew this, were intentional about it.
This is not to say that frightful visions have no place in art – if you know what I do, I am the last person to claim such a thing. But conscious awareness, aspiration, and knowledge are what is important. Frightening images can be bearers of light filled knowledge – and images of love and light could be heavy and even demonic. It all depends on the creator's aim and degree of Self-realisation.
A medium has to be aware of what they are, both for their own well being, and for the well being of all those who connect with the artefacts they have channeled.
This is what an artist's responsibility means and why it is especially important in today's day and age.
To me, devotion to my art equals devotion to the Supreme Reality, who reveals Their aspects as my visions on canvas, film, sculpture, or any other medium. My responsibility lies in discerning what needs to manifest through me, when and how. My intentions are aligned with my responsibility to help heal ourselves, and guide the footsteps of our civilisation onto a path of harmony with nature, tolerance and love, one human at a time.
My style is fierce, and so are my methods, but my heart is eternally humbled to be part of a love that was never born and will never die. Our love.
