About 43 years ago, Abdullah Öcalan fled to Syria to protect the movement for a free #Kurdistan from the imminent military coup in Turkey, which took place on September 12, 1980.

➡️ The people of Kobane & Afrin are known for their connection to their land and their attachment to the values of the revolution. These are rooted in the works of Abdullah Öcalan and the years that he spent there. In his time there, he lived and learnt together with the people.

➡️ With the liberation of Kobane, YPJ became known around the world for the fighting women’s self-defence units that defeated Daesh.

➡️ During his time in #Syria, Abdullah Öcalan developed new socialist ideas, far from Soviet state #socialism

➡️ A new way of thinking, grounded on women's liberation & #confederalism emerged

➡️ In 2013 #YPJ were founded on these principles

➡️ In the 80s Öcalan begins to deeply analyse the history & people of #Kurdistan

➡️ He researched & interpreted the history of Kurdish women & those around the world

➡️ #YPJ is based on these scientific findings. A strong foundation needs to have a solid theoretical structure

#Turkey repeatedly attacks regions affected by the #earthquake

➡️ After the Turkish shelling on earthquake hit Til Rifat, a turkish drone bombed #Kobane today

➡️ The vehicle was hit on the road to Menaz village

➡️ So far there are no further information on deaths & wounded

With his work, Öcalan changed the relations between the different populations, especially between Arabs & Kurds

➡️ Today there are Arab, Syriac, Armenian, Circassian, Chechen & Turkmen women within #YPJ

➡️ Many colours are represented & every women can find herself in YPJ

On 9/10/98 #Turkey & other NATO states threatened #Syria with war in case Öcalan remained

➡️ As a result, he headed to Europe to promote a political solution for the Kurdistan

➡️ In the following years women were organising units in #Rojava/Northern Syria that later became #YPJ
