At the beginning of 2026, during the heroic resistance of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, many women and men gave their lives for the safety and freedom of the people and felt martyr. A few days ago, the identities of eight fallen fighters of the Internals Security forces (Asayish), who fell martyr during this resistance, were announced. They were laid to rest in different places across Rojava. We remember them and their resistance with great respect.

Statement to the Public
On 26 August, the General Command of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) held a meeting with an official delegation from the Ministry of Interior of the transitional government in Damascus.
During the meeting, issues of security and stability in Syria, as well as the future of cooperation and coordination between the two sides, were discussed extensively.
The future of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) was the main focus of the meeting. It was emphasized that the YPJ could be integrated, as a distinct and organized force, into the structure of the Ministry of Interior.
The meeting was held in a positive and constructive atmosphere. In order to complete and finalize the integration process within the framework of the 29 January 2026 Agreement, our meetings and discussions will continue.

Êylêm Cûdî, Slava Kurdistan, and Êylêm Çiya fought until their last breaths in Afrin in 2018 to defend their land and the dignity of their people. Their identity has just been announced to the public.

Joining was not difficult for her, as she comes from a patriotic family.
Since childhood, she had been influenced by strong, independent, and self-confident women. Seeing women take responsibility in social life, defend their rights, and move forward with hope created a new sense of purpose in her heart.
In particular, her friends, who supported one another, became a source of strength and self-confidence for her. She wanted to define herself as a woman, to have her own voice, and to demonstrate her role in society. Influenced by these experiences, she decided to join a path where women can prove themselves through action and conviction.

As the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), we affirm that our forces have no involvement in this incident whatsoever.
At this time, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) are being subjected to systematic and deliberate attacks by a hostile patriarchal mindset.
Targeting civilians constitutes a crime under international law and is contrary to our fundamental principles, and it cannot be accepted in any way.
In order to identify those responsible, uncover the truth about what happened, and ensure justice, our official committee is continuing its comprehensive investigation. Once the investigation is concluded, its findings will be made public clearly and transparently.

On the fifth anniversary of the historic “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising, which erupted following the martyrdom of the Kurdish young woman Jina Amini in Eastern Kurdistan and Iran against the repressive regime, we, the General Command of the Women’s Protection Units, remember all the martyrs of the Freedom Revolution with the utmost respect and appreciation, and bow in reverence to their pure memory. This uprising represented a strategic turning point in the history of women’s struggle and a symbol of social awakening.
The struggle of Kurdish women shattered the walls of fear that had been built over the years. This movement demonstrated that no repressive regime can stand in the way of the legitimate and natural demand for freedom. The philosophy of “Women, Life, Freedom,” inspired by the model of Leader Apo, has become a bridge connecting the peoples of the region. Kurdish, Arab, Persian, Baloch, and other communities united around this line of solidarity, offering a model for building a shared and democratic life.
The slogan “Women, Life, Freedom” is not merely a slogan; it is a declaration that outlines the features of a new world and affirms that without the liberation of women, no society can be free. We, in the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), declare, out of our historic responsibility, that we have expanded the line of resistance that emerged in Rojava to encompass a network of protection for all women in the region. For us, the struggle in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan is not merely an event that we support; it is an inseparable part of our existential cause and our struggle for defence. We will preserve the memory of the martyrs to the very end, strengthen the foundations of this revolution through military and social organisation, and stand as a shield for women’s freedom in the face of all forms of aggression by ruling regimes.
