*STATEMENT: Extinction Rebellion UK on the May Rebellion and coronavirus*
Extinction Rebellion UK – as part of a wider movement – exists to protect life, both now and for future generations. Right now we all need to prioritise public health, follow advice from scientists and doctors, and be mindful of the most vulnerable in our communities.
Mass public gatherings will not be organised by Extinction Rebellion if it is not safe to do so. As such we can no longer make a commitment to the date of May 23rd for in-person rebellion in London based on Covid-19.

THE XR EVENT WILL HAPPEN OUTSIDE, BY THE THAMES
10:45-11AM: The banner will leave the Turbine Hall in a procession lead by artists and activists. If you don’t have a Tate ticket, meet the procession outside at Hopton Street SE1 as it heads to the Thames.
Bring your love, rage and energy - enjoy a sprinkling of poetry, music, dance and heartfelt speeches

XR Southwark are joining XR Christians tomorrow night, 19:00, to protest about Shell’s relocation to the UK. Meet at Methodist Central Hall at 7pm to show solidarity. Why?…….
🔥 Shell has announced its highest ever quarterly profits. These profits come on the back of hikes in of oil and gas prices that are are pushing up the cost of living around the world.
🔥 Shell still plans to invest $6.25bn over the next decade oil and gas projects, including North Sea oil and gas that it will sell on the international market.
🔥 Shell bosses are pressuring the UK government to unblock development of the Jackdaw gas field despite objections to its environmental impact, and although it pulled out of the Cambo oil field under pressure over climate change, it has refused to comment on whether it would now return.

Vigil of Witness - To take part in the vigil you can just turn up at any point during this time and stay for an hour or for as long as you want. We vigil by simply sitting quietly together on the wide pavement, and holding the Earth in our hearts.
We need to remind investors that Shell are not the “good guys”. Fossil fuels need to stay underground if we are to have a chance at securing a liveable future.
All you need to bring is you and your love of the planet. XR Southwark will be there at 7pm tomorrow.
