🔸 IELTS Academic Writing Part 1 Practice Task with Sample Answer

▶️Task:
The table below shows the average number of hours spent on different leisure activities per week in three countries in 2020.
▪️Summarize the main trends and compare the data for the three countries.

▶️Sample Answer (Band 6.5):

⏪The table illustrates the average number of hours people in three countries dedicated to various leisure activities in 2020. Overall, watching television was the most popular activity across all nations, although the amount of time varied significantly.

In Country A, individuals spent approximately 20 hours per week watching TV, which was considerably higher than in Country B, where the figure was around 15 hours. Conversely, reading was more common in Country B, with an average of about 8 hours, compared to just 5 hours in Country C.

Interestingly, sports and exercise received the least attention, with all countries averaging less than 5 hours weekly. Notably, Country C devoted more time to sports than the others, indicating a possible cultural difference.

In conclusion, while television viewing dominates leisure time, differences in other activities highlight varying lifestyle preferences among these nations.⏩

2️⃣ Coherence and Cohesion: 6.5
The organization of the response is logical, with clear progression from one point to another. However, the use of linking words could be improved to enhance the flow of information. Some sentences could be better connected for smoother reading.

3️⃣ Lexical Resource: 7.5
The vocabulary used is appropriate and varied, with terms like "average number of hours," "most popular activity," and "cultural difference." There is a good range of vocabulary, but there could be more precise word choices in some areas.

4️⃣ Grammatical Range and Accuracy: 6.0
The grammatical structures are mostly correct, with a mix of simple and complex sentences. However, there are minor errors and some repetition of sentence structures that could be improved for a higher score.

〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️

📊 IELTS Writing Task 1: Low-Band Sample Answer Analysis (5.0) 〰️

〰️ Link to the sample response ➡️ https://t.me/Writing_YouSkill/433

Analysis Based on IELTS Criteria 📊

✅ Task Achievement: 5.0
The response addresses the task by summarizing the main points of the chart. However, it lacks specific data and details that would provide a clearer picture of the changes in spending. The answer does not sufficiently cover all aspects of the chart, which limits its effectiveness.

✅ Coherence and Cohesion: 5.5
The organization of the response is basic, with a straightforward progression from one point to another. However, the connections between ideas are weak, and there is a lack of cohesive devices that would enhance the flow of the text. More linking words and phrases would improve coherence.

✅ Lexical Resource: 4.5
The vocabulary used is quite limited and repetitive, with phrases like "money spent" and "less" appearing multiple times. There is a lack of variety in word choice, which detracts from the overall quality of the response. A broader range of vocabulary would help convey the information more effectively.

✅ Grammatical Range and Accuracy: 5.5
The grammatical structures are mostly correct, but the sentence variety is minimal. The response primarily uses simple sentences, which limits the demonstration of grammatical range. There are minor errors, but they do not significantly hinder understanding. More complex sentences would enhance the score.

〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
📊 Overall Estimated Band Score: 5.0

⬛️ This sample answer provides a basic overview of the chart but lacks the detail, coherence, and vocabulary variety needed for a higher score. To improve, focus on providing more specific information, using a wider range of vocabulary, and enhancing grammatical complexity in future responses.
