☑️ IELTS Writing Part 1: Band Score Breakdown for Sample Letter (7.0)

Let’s analyze the example letter provided earlier using the four IELTS assessment criteria. Here’s how it performs ⤵️

1️⃣ Task Achievement: 7.5
The letter comprehensively covers all aspects of the task: describing the park, highlighting specific issues, and proposing practical solutions. The points are well-developed, making the letter clear and effective. Slightly more detail on visitor impact could push this higher.

2️⃣ Coherence and Cohesion: 6.0
The structure is logical, with clear paragraphs and some linking phrases. However, transitions between ideas are somewhat basic, and variety in connectors is limited, which affects the overall flow and cohesion.

3️⃣ Lexical Resource: 7.5
The vocabulary is appropriate and varied, with phrases like "peaceful oasis," "detract from its overall appeal," and "encourages littering." The writer demonstrates a strong lexical range, but the language could be more precise or sophisticated in places.

4️⃣ Grammatical Range and Accuracy: 5.5
While the sentence structures are generally correct, the answer contains several grammatical errors and awkward constructions. The grammatical range is somewhat limited, and errors somewhat distract from clarity, preventing a higher score.

🪄💡🪄This sample shows strong task achievement and lexical resource, but needs improvement in grammatical accuracy and cohesion. With targeted revisions, it could reach an 8.0!

📖Dear Manager,

I stayed at your hotel last week. I did not like it. The room was dirty and the staff was not friendly. I had to wait a long time to check in. The breakfast was bad too.

🗓IELTS Writing Task 1 General: Band Score Breakdown and Reasons ⤵️

1️⃣ Task Achievement: 5.0/9.0
The letter addresses the task but lacks detail. It provides basic information about the stay but does not fully explain the issues or give specific examples. Suggestions for improvement are very brief and not well-developed.

2️⃣ Coherence and Cohesion: 4.5/9.0
The organization of the letter is weak. Ideas are presented in a disjointed manner, making it difficult to follow. There are few linking words, which results in a lack of flow between sentences and paragraphs.

3️⃣ Lexical Resource: 5.0/9.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. Phrases like "I did not like it" and "the breakfast was bad" show limited lexical range. More varied and precise language could enhance the response significantly.

4️⃣ Grammatical Range and Accuracy: 5.5/9.0
The letter contains several grammatical errors and lacks complexity. Sentences are mostly short and simple, which limits the range of grammar demonstrated. Some punctuation errors also affect clarity.

💬 Overall Score: 5.0 💬

❗️ This example illustrates the importance of providing detailed information, using varied vocabulary, and maintaining coherence in your writing. To achieve a higher score, it’s essential to develop ideas more fully and use a wider range of language.

🤍 Tips to Improve:
➡️ Add more details about the place, activities, and your feelings.
➡️ Use a variety of vocabulary to describe experiences.
➡️ Incorporate different sentence types and connect ideas smoothly.

💜 IELTS Writing Part 2 Practice: Sample Answer (Band 7.5)

💜 Topic:

💜Some people believe that learning a foreign language is essential for future success, while others think that it is not necessary. Discuss both views and give your opinion.💜

💜 Sample Answer (Band 7.5):

💜 In today's globalized world, the importance of learning a foreign language has become a subject of considerable debate. While some advocate that mastering additional languages is crucial for future success, others argue that it is not indispensable.

💜 On the one hand, those who support learning foreign languages emphasize numerous benefits. Proficiency in another language can enhance career prospects, especially in multinational companies where communication across borders is vital. Moreover, language acquisition often broadens horizons, improves cognitive skills, and deepens cultural understanding. For example, being fluent in Mandarin or Spanish can open doors to new markets and expand professional networks.

💜 Conversely, some believe that technical skills and qualifications are more important than learning additional languages. They argue that advancements in translation technology and global communication platforms have reduced the necessity of knowing multiple languages. Furthermore, not everyone has the aptitude or opportunity to learn a new language, and prioritizing other skills might be more practical.

💜 In my opinion, although technological innovations have made communication easier, learning a foreign language remains highly beneficial. It not only facilitates personal growth but also provides tangible advantages in professional and social contexts. Therefore, investing in language education is a wise decision for those seeking long-term success.
