🔖Detailed Assessment of IELTS Writing Task 1 Response

📌In this section, we will break down the sample answer using the official IELTS assessment criteria. Each criterion plays a crucial role in determining your overall score, and understanding these factors can help you identify areas for improvement.

➡️ Below, we will analyze the response based on Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy.

Assessment Criteria:⬇️

1️⃣ Task Achievement: 5/9
The letter addresses the task but lacks detail in each section. For example, it mentions moving for a job but does not specify what the job is or what the friend might find interesting about the city.

2️⃣ Coherence and Cohesion: 5/9
The response is organized but lacks effective linking words and phrases. The flow between ideas is basic, making it harder for the reader to follow the overall message.

3️⃣ Lexical Resource: 5/9
The vocabulary used is simple and repetitive. Words like “nice” and “good” are overused, and there is a lack of variety in word choice, which limits the expressiveness of the letter.

4️⃣ Grammatical Range and Accuracy: 5/9
The letter contains basic sentence structures with few errors, but it lacks complex sentences. The grammar is mostly correct, but the simplicity of the sentences does not demonstrate a higher level of proficiency.

〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️

📎Overall Score: 5/9

➡️ This response meets the basic requirements of the task but lacks depth and complexity. To improve, focus on providing more detailed information, using varied vocabulary, and incorporating complex sentence structures."

☑️ IELTS Writing Task 2 Example: Band 7.5 Response!

➡️ Task:

Some people think that the best way to increase road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving cars or motorbikes. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

➡️ Sample Answer:

1️⃣ In recent years, road safety has become a significant concern for many governments and communities. While some individuals argue that raising the minimum legal age for driving would lead to safer roads, I believe that this approach is only a partial solution to the problem.

2️⃣ Firstly, it is essential to acknowledge that younger drivers often lack the experience and maturity required to make sound decisions behind the wheel. Statistics show that accident rates are notably higher among drivers aged 16 to 20 compared to older age groups. Therefore, increasing the legal driving age could potentially reduce the number of traffic incidents caused by impulsive behavior and poor judgment.

3️⃣ However, simply raising the age limit may not address the root causes of road safety issues. For instance, many accidents occur due to factors such as distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and poor road conditions. Implementing stricter penalties for reckless driving and enhancing driver education programs could be more effective in promoting safer driving habits among all age groups.

4️⃣ Moreover, it is crucial to consider that increasing the driving age could have negative implications for young people who rely on vehicles for commuting to school or work. This could limit their opportunities and independence, ultimately affecting their quality of life.

5️⃣ In conclusion, while raising the minimum legal age for driving may contribute to improved road safety, it should be part of a broader strategy that includes education, stricter enforcement of traffic laws, and public awareness campaigns. Only through a comprehensive approach can we hope to achieve significant improvements in road safety.
