✍️ Sample Question & Answer — Academic Writing Task 1

❓Question:
The chart below shows the percentage of households in different income groups that had internet access between 2010 and 2020.

✉️ Sample Answer (Band 8):

1️⃣ The bar chart illustrates the proportion of households with internet access across various income groups over a ten-year period, from 2010 to 2020. Overall, internet access increased in all income brackets, though the gap between the highest and lowest income groups remained noticeable throughout the decade.

2️⃣ In 2010, around 80% of high-income households had internet access, while only about 20% of low-income homes were connected. Middle-income households stood at approximately 50%. By 2020, internet penetration had risen significantly across all groups. High-income households reached over 95%, middle-income families climbed to around 85%, and low-income homes grew to just under 60%.

3️⃣ Despite the steady improvement in internet availability, the data highlights a persistent digital divide. High-income families maintained a clear advantage, while low-income households lagged behind. This trend underlines the ongoing challenge of ensuring equal access to digital resources across different socioeconomic groups.

🗒️ Low-Band Sample + Error Analysis — Academic Task 1

💬 Answer (Band 4.0):

☺️This bar graph show internet in homes. Rich people have more internet. Poor people have less. From 2010 to 2020, the numbers go up. Rich go up a lot, poor go up little☺️

❌ Mistakes:
🤎show → should be shows
🤎Basic vocabulary: rich, poor, go up — too informal
🤎No overview sentence
🤎Repetitive, lacks structure

❗️ Why it scores low:
➡️ Limited grammar and vocabulary
➡️ No clear data comparison
➡️ Weak task achievement and coherence

💋💋💋 Use formal academic language, provide details, and organize your ideas clearly.

✍ Sample Question & Answer — Writing Task 2

❓Question:

🤎Some people believe that children should be taught how to manage money in school.
Do you agree or disagree?
🤎

✉️ Sample Answer (Band 8.5-9.0):

1️⃣ I firmly agree that financial literacy should be an integral part of the school curriculum. Equipping children with essential money-management skills from an early age not only helps them develop responsible financial habits, but also significantly reduces the risk of financial mismanagement in adulthood.

2️⃣ In today’s consumer-driven society, children are constantly exposed to spending pressures, yet many leave school without even a basic understanding of budgeting, saving, or responsible borrowing. By incorporating financial education into the classroom, students can learn practical skills such as setting financial goals, distinguishing between needs and wants, and understanding the consequences of debt. These lessons can foster a more financially informed and self-reliant generation.

3️⃣ Furthermore, schools offer a structured and neutral learning environment that ensures equal access to this crucial knowledge. Not all parents have the time, expertise, or resources to teach their children about money. In contrast, trained educators can deliver this content systematically, using age-appropriate methods and real-life examples that resonate with students.

4️⃣ Some may argue that financial education is the responsibility of parents, not schools. However, given the long-term societal consequences of poor financial decision-making — such as personal debt, reliance on government support, and financial stress — it is in the public interest to address this issue through formal education.

5️⃣ In conclusion, integrating financial education into the school curriculum is a proactive and necessary measure. It empowers young people to make sound financial decisions and better navigate the economic realities of adult life.
