๐งฟ At today's memorial on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the illegal NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, Russian general Leonid Ivashov sent a video message due to his inability to fly in for the second year in a row [due to western sanctions].
The retired Colonel General, who was one of the organizers of the 1999 "March to Pristina [airport]" at the end of the conflict; had some choice words about how those events, 27 years ago, are still reverberating in Iran and the world today, and how the same enemy continues to wage war against humanity.
Original with Serbian subtitles provided by 'The Belgrade Forum for a World of Equals', and "automated" English subtitles provided graciously by Wes, specifically for you.
Very poignant speech with many takeaways, highly recommended.

๐งฟ On the way from the first memorial ceremony, to the second, as you leave the park, another reminder of the illegal NATO bombing of Serbia, the state TV broadcaster building, still in ruins after the bombing.
A friend's father was martyred while at work there.
It is the same playbook they are still using, currently in Iran.

๐งฟ Subjectively, it matters objectively too, not just out of patriotism. @WorkingBrother ๐

On this day in 1999, NATO began bombing its illegal bombing campaign of Yugoslavia without permission from the UN Security Council.
After years of supporting right-wing nationalist forces to undermine and weaken the integrity of Yugoslavia, NATO begun its campaign to break up the socialist state. Though it claimed to be intervening to stop ethnic cleansing, the Assistant to US Secretary of Defense Strobe Talbott revealed the real reason for the war:
"It was Yugoslavia's resistance to the broader trends of political and economic reform, not the plight of Kosovar Albanians, that best explains NATO's war.โ
[...]
NATO openly bragged about its destruction of Yugoslaviaโs infrastructure, with its spokesperson Jaime Shea proudly saying in 1999 โAnd the fact that the lights went out in 70% of the countryโฆwe can turn the power off whenever we need to and whenever we want to.โ

Attention Attention, Air Alerts for Belgrade
Residents of Belgrade, even though you know, let us remind you, turn off your electricity, turn off the gas, close your window shutters and curtains, gather your prepared belongings and calmly make your way to your shelters or areas of refuge.
That part is the most chilling memory.
