That's what us, humans, do as well. Chew on stronger objects, not in the sense of literally crunching metals or wood but in the sense of using others to mold the state of our existence. Our insecurities grow as time goes by and it is an undeniable fact that we shred someone else's emotions and drown them just to feel less insecure and think maybe that helps our survival. Fear gets the best of us and we bite on someone else's strength and weaken them just to feel less fearful as we leave them scared to death and think maybe that drives us to live another day.
