Speaking at the U.S. Naval Academy last week, Chief of Space Operations, Gen. John W. “Jay” Raymond, said that the U.S. Navy’s experience in the maritime domain provides apt comparisons – and guideposts – for meeting the challenges and responsibilities faced by the U.S. Space Force as it grows and matures.
He described space as a warfighting domain, asserting that space capabilities underpin all instruments of national power. “Space is global,” he said, “and is key to our economy and national security.” #VectorMiB And for that reason, he continued, the domain is threatened. The increasingly congested, competitive, and contested environment led to the creation of the first independent military service branch dedicated to space—the U.S. Space Force.

Two T-38 Talons Involved In Deadly Incident On Laughlin AFB's Runway
One pilot has died, another is in critical condition, and another suffered no major injuries as a result of the mishap.
We really don't have any details we can add at this time as to what caused such a tragedy. The Air Force training community, especially the T-38 component of it, is no stranger to mishaps, including those involving multiple aircraft. Just two years ago, a fatal collision between two Talon trainers landing in formation resulted in a pause to formation terminal flight operations. It is not clear if those restrictions are still in place at this time.

Pentagon picks Northrop, Lockheed, Raytheon to develop hypersonic defense
The Pentagon on Friday said it selected Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon #VectorMiB to research and develop a missile system that would be able to defend the United States against a hypersonic weapons attack.
The three companies were awarded separate contracts totaling about $60 million to develop a glide phase interceptor that would be guided by a constellation of satellites and sensors to intercept a hypersonic missile inside Earth's atmosphere as it glides towards its target.
The Missile Defense Agency 2022 budget earmarked $136 million for research, development, testing and evaluation for the interceptor, but the program will ultimately yield billions of dollars of revenue for defense contractors. (Source)

North Yorkshire and Cleveland homes shaken by loud bang #MYSTERYBOOM
Residents have reported homes shaking and windows vibrating following a loud bang across parts of North Yorkshire and East Cleveland. The noise was reported in several areas at about 15:50 GMT.
The British Geological Survey (BGS) said despite claims of an earthquake, it was thought the sound came from above, rather than below the ground.
The RAF said it was checking reports for mentions of a sonic boom.
Whitby councillor Phillip Trumper said he could see his windows vibrating and also felt his house shake. "It sounded like something really heavy falling over in the house next door," he said.
Dr Amy-Jane Beer tweeted that the sound was "felt in the air and all through our bodies near Castle Howard". "Kids froze, dog ran for her life," she wrote, adding: "Former now thrilled, latter hiding under my bed." (Source)
