JACKSONVILLE FIREFIGHTER DROPS DEAD AFTER WORKING VEHICLE CRASH
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Dept is mourning the loss of another firefighter. Michael L. Freeland, 36, was working at the scene of a traffic crash involving a “difficult and prolonged extrication.” Freeland was in the back of a U-Haul truck attempting to rescue the driver, before he stepped out of the truck, and collapsed. The cause of his death is undetermined at this time.

He is the 3rd line-of-duty JFRD death in last 6 months. Capt. Thomas Barber, who served the department for 21 years and was 51 years old, died from a heart attack in June within hours of completing his shift. Lt.
