Consumer Goods Giant to Raise Prices on More Staples, Blames Increase in Cost on Raw Materials

Procter & Gamble Co. said it will raise prices on a number of household staple goods as the cost for raw materials and freight has increased faster than it had anticipated.

The company, which makes a range of products including Tide and Charmin, said it would begin to charge more for oral care, beauty, and razors. Earlier this year, Procter & Gamble said it would charge more for toilet paper and diapers.

The new price hikes are not being implemented on all its products, but they will be marked for specific items such as razors and in some sub-categories, CFO Andre Schulten told Reuters. U.S. retailers are aware of the new sticker prices, he added.

Global supply chains are under strain due to factors such as a resurgence of COVID-19 lockdowns in Asia and labor shortages in the United States, leading to a surge in raw material prices that is also squeezing profits at Unilever and Reckitt Benckiser.

A NATO-backed study conceded that the military alliance is developing offensive tactics against civilian populations - stating, “The human is very often the main vulnerability and it should be acknowledged in order to protect NATO’s human capital but also to be able to benefit from our adversaries’s vulnerabilities.”

In a chilling disclosure, the report said explicitly that “the objective of Cognitive Warfare is to harm societies -- not only the military.”

NATO’s development of hybrid warfare comes at a time when member states’ military campaigns are targeting domestic populations on an unprecedented level.

Record Number of Container Ships Waiting Off Ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles: Executive

The United States’ largest container port now has a record backlog of ships and containers, according to Gene Seroka, the executive director of the Port of Los Angeles.

“We have about two weeks’ worth of work sitting at anchor right now,” Seroka told CNN, adding that port workers are currently trying to prioritize the cargo that needs to move from the port as soon as possible.

Some 200,000 shipping containers remain on ships off the coast, he added.

“There’s product that needs to get out there in super-fast speed,” he said. “Think about the toys, the other Christmas product, and parts and components for factories.”

His comment comes just days after President Joe Biden announced that the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have committed to 24/7 shifts to alleviate supply chain bottlenecks ahead of the Christmas shopping season.

An undersea volcano and related tectonic activity near the Ogasawara island chain in Japan has raised the island of Iwo Jima, exposing a fleet of partially sunken Second World War ships. Aerial footage from the Japanese All-Nippon News Network reported the strange phenomenon on Monday. The black beach on Iwo To, formerly known as Iwo Jima, was stormed by thousands of U.S. Marines Feb. 19, 1945 during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Walter Reed on lockdown for bomb threat

The facility received an anonymous call at about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday. The caller said there was a bomb at or near building 10 – the main hospital building. Naval Support Activity Bethesda, which includes Walter Reed, put the installation on lockdown and sent security to the scene.

As of 10 a.m., the base remained on lockdown, with all gates closed and personnel sheltering in place. Through its Twitter account, Naval Support Activity Bethesda said there was no indication of an active shooter.

At about 10:50 a.m., bomb-sniffing dogs were sent to check all buildings at the installation, the base said. An “all clear” had not been announced as of 11:20.
