German Federal Minister of Education and Research Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) Hendrik Wüst, and European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel have officially put the system of quantum computers into operation during a ceremony held today, at which they highlighted the importance of collaboration in the development of practical quantum applications across industry sectors and research fields. The FTC Is Suing Lockheed Martin To Stop Its $4.4 Billion Aerojet Rocketdyne Deal
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit to stop the pending acquisition of Aerojet Rocketdyne and aerospace titan Lockheed Martin. The proposed deal is worth $4.4 billion in cash and debt. Still, the US Trade Representative contends that the combination of the two companies would give Lockheed Martin leverage it could use “to harm rival defence contractors and further consolidate multiple markets critical to national security and defence.”

Hundreds of thousands without power, at least 6 killed after Storm Malik hits Europe
At least 6 people have been killed after a powerful winter storm brought hurricane-force winds to northern Europe on January 29 and 30, 2022, causing coastal surges and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. This storm is known as Nadia in Germany and Malik elsewhere.
The worst affected were the United Kingdom, Denmark, Poland, and Germany where homes and cars were destroyed, bridges shut, trains canceled and ferries docked as coastal surges led to flooding.
Malik reached the Nordic region and northern Germany late Saturday, January 29 after moving in from Britain where it caused havoc with material damage and transport chaos, hitting Scotland particularly bad.
