The total number of new PPS numbers issued between January 1 and May 31 of this year was 129,634.
🔹 25,458 were newly registered births.
🔹 99,302 were to persons of “other than Irish nationality,” including 34,962 from Ukraine.
That means even had there been no war in Ukraine, 68% of new PPS numbers would have still been issued to persons of other than Irish nationality.
According to Economics Professor Ronan Lyons at Trinity College, every extra 10,000 migrants require on average 4,000 new dwellings, principally in the cities.
Ukrainians aside, the migrants issued PPS numbers this year require 25,736 homes.
Meanwhile the government's €450 million Croí Cónaithe scheme aims to deliver just 5,000 apartments by 2026, yet few can still afford them.
There's your housing crisis.

‘It’s a Prison’: Bulgaria Makes Ukrainian Refugees Live in Shipping Containers
Video online has showcased the Bulgarian authorities' efforts to cut costs on hosting refugees from Ukraine.
The clip appears to show Ukrainians arriving to a 'living complex,' appeared to be made of several shipping containers and surrounded by barbed wire.
People in the video can be heard calling the facility a prison, complaining about having to shower in groups and the restrooms being outside the living quarters.
Bulgaria has recently cut payments to Ukrainians by more than half and, according to local watchdogs, is experiencing a mass exodus as refugees seek pastures new in Europe.
