"Eamon Ryan came to Limerick down on a train but his ministerial car came down the road and burned fuel.
"He's out of touch with reality. Any person who could say in the time of a pandemic 'let's paint the back of the house and grow lettuce on the south facing windows'...this is a Minister of State!
"And then he wanted anyone outside of Dublin, he wanted us to all have 30 cars for 3,000 people, and we could all commute together.
"But I can't understand why the likes of the RTÉs don't stand up for everyone. Look at your shelf prices. Is it because of the funding and the salaries that they're on that they don't understand it?"

On this day in 1700, the Scottish colonists who went to Panama as part of the Darien Scheme, returned to Scotland failing in their venture to set up a Scottish colony. This event would bankrupt Scotland and would be a catalyst to final unification with the rest of the British Isles. Only 7 years later would the Kingdom of Great Britain be established.
