University to Pay $400,000 to Professor Punished for Refusing to Use Studentโs Preferred Pronouns

Details:
Shawnee State University in Ohio has reached a settlement with a professor whom it punished for refusing to use a transgender studentโs preferred pronouns.
The university will pay philosophy professor Nick Meriwether $400,000 in damages and attorney fees and will rescind a written warning it issued to Meriwether in June 2018 in response to a biological male studentโs complaint that the professor refused to use female pronouns for the student.

Russian tycoon wants pension age lowered to 45
Russia needs a new pension reform that would lower the pension age to 45, businessman Oleg Deripaska, founder of aluminum giant Rusal and, for a time in the late 2000s, Russiaโs richest man, told the news outlet Expert. He believes the assets of state-owned companies could be used to fund the plan.
โIt is necessary to replenish the assets of the pension system in such a way that for people over 45 there is a source of pension payments that does not depend on the federal budget. And that's where state property comes in handy... We have these assets: Gazprom, Rosneft, all other state-owned companiesโฆโ Deripaska suggested.

Former Fishing Village in China has more Billionaires than New York
China now hosts three cities with the greatest number of mega-rich, according to data from the Global Rich List - including Shenzhen.
144 billionaires live in Beijing, 121 in Shanghai, and now New York has been knocked out the top three (110).
Shenzhen, a former fishing village turned Chinaโs Silicon Valley, has 113 of the globeโs most wealthy. The city has been basking in a growing concentration of wealth, adding eight billionaires to its list since last year.
According to Heng Chen, an associate professor of economics at the University of Hong Kong, Shenzhenโs rise stemmed from its efforts to make the city welcoming to businesses, for instance, by offering tax breaks to high-tech companies.
